Wow - Nothing but grins about this grinder!
I needed a grinder to restore an old Porsche so I went shopping. I really liked the on/off switch position on the Milwaukee grinders. Most others had these inconveniently placed switches. The D28402K's switch is pretty good. It is very comfortable in your hand and light. And the power... OH WOW! I sharpened my lawn mower blade in just a few minutes. I can't believe that I had sharped them by hand before.The case in very nice. It is heavy duty plastic. There is a holder in there for your grinding and cut off wheels. The handle can be put on either side if you are left or right handed.Bottom Line - I love it. This is my second DeWalt too. It won't be my last.

Power to spare!
I needed a new grinder for grinding a concrete patio. My previous one burned out (it was a cheap one - $30, 5.8 amps). I decided to go with a good one this time. It has power to spare (10amp). Never slowed down during my grinding like my old one. It also did not get overheated like my old one. This is a great addition to my tool collection - especially Dewalt.Even came with a carrying case.

"My first grinder"
I've used grinders at work but I've never owned one of my own. Now dewalt may not be top dog when it comes to technology or enervation (like Bosch or Panasonic) but they usually make simple, tough and reasonably affordable tools. That's really about all the counts. Most grinders I've used seems to be about the same in design so I didn`t care much about witch I picked as long as it was a good name brand. I started my tool collection off with dewalt long ago so that's what I have stuck with. I like that paddle switch on this one, they are fragile but easy to work with. This particular one is self off locking, there is a little bit you have to rotate to push the switch down that`s on the switch. It was a little strange at first but quickly became comfortable to do. Also this one can be held on, as most can, simple click the paddle and it turns off. The only thing I don't like is that if you where to drop it that locking mechanism on the paddle part of the switch may brake... The handle...

Grinder used for sanding
I purchased this grinder with the Dewalt DW4945 4 and a 1/2 inch rubber backing pad and DW4525 35grit sanding discs. I used this setup to sand some house facing down to the wood because the paint was peeling. Scraping and orbital sanding were taking hours per square foot, but this setup moves right along. There is some danger to gouging especially when the disc is in the first 10 minutes. Possibly a larger diameter would be safer but I don't know. On the other hand the small size lets you zero in on stubborn spots. 50 grit might work better. I can't see any courser working well. The bearings/gear system don't sound smooth like a router but at speed the vibration is no trouble. There are higher priced models; don't know exactly the benefit but they do have a different trigger system. This one has one lever high and in front which you can lock and then shut off with the thumb on the hand holding the grinder while your other hand is say on a ladder or something...

Value Conscious Performer
This is the best value I've found in a grinder. I've had mine for nearly a year. I've used it to sand, grind high spots in concrete, cut steel bolts, scrub other tools, cut graphite golf shafts, and destroy bad hard drives for my computer. The most extreme use was running it one day for 6 hours of continuous use on a big sanding job. I've abused this thing in ways that it is not designed for and it still won't quit.Pluses: strong, versatile, easy to change attachments, good switch locks on, handle attaches to either sideMinuses: On the noisy side... not such a big deal when you using a grinder. This model has only the side lock on switch rather than a dead-man switch.I use it more than I thought I would. Knowing what I know now I'd probably buy the 10 Amp model that comes with the case and deadman switch. Four and a half stars rounded up to five, because of performance and durability.

Great Tool
I'm used to working tools hard and often being disappointed with the lack of durability.No fear the Makita 9557PBX is a work hoarse it doesn't get much more demanding than grinding granite. No instructions on rotating grinding head
This grinder is terrific. It replaces a grinder from HF that I paid $10 for. Needless to say it is much, much better. I do have two gripes, however; one is that it is advertised that the head of it rotates, but there are no instructions on how to do it in the manual or the Makita web site. Second, the wrench for putting on and taking off the wheels is awkward to position and doesn't pop into place very easily. On the good side, its easy to handle, fairly quiet, powerful enough, and the case is great. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is the absense of instructions for an advertised feature.

Excellent at the price
This wonderful little grinder is amazingly powerful. It doesn't overheat or bog down on even tough jobs like grinding down high spots in concrete. I've owned mine for three years now, have used it a lot and have been perfectly satisfied.A little safety warning. Grinders are extremely dangerous power tools because of the exposed very high speed spinning grinding wheel, and because of the great torque force when the wheel meets resistance. I was grinding through some angle iron when the wheel caught the material, ripping the tool out of my hands. I wasn't wearing gloves, was too lazy to screw in the side handle which would have given me a better grip, and was wearing shorts. My right knee was ripped open. I have a great looking ragged scar that took months to heal. On another occasion, when grinding concrete, I stood up and relaxed, and the still spinning wheel cut my left hand to the bone, barely missing a tendon. Solid, Great Value, Powerful Performance!
I was installing a new sink in the kitchen and had to enlarge the opening to accomodate it, which meant cutting through granite tile. After much research, it seemed the best way to do it was to use an angle grinder fitted with a diamond blade. I didn't want to make a big investment so I found the Porter-Cable model at Lowe's for $39.99 and was all set to buy it, but this model was right next to it for only $5 more -- plus it came with a case and 5 grinding disks. I'd read that the Hitachi was a solid tool so I went for it. I sure am glad I did -- it is incredible! So small but with so much power, and is very solidly built. Changing the disk was simple. I was very pleased. For general use, it's more than sufficient for most DIY'ers.I am puzzled why the Hitachi's handle is angled slightly inward -- all the other grinders have their handles at a 90-degree angle from the body. Bang for the Buck
I bought this about a year ago and every time I use it I like it more. This tool feels solid, powerful, and comfortable to hold. I particularly like the fact that I can move the handle to either the right or left side depending on what I'm cutting and where I want to hold. The carying case is great too and keeps everything, including wheels, in one handy place. Drop a cut-off wheel in this and say goodbye to your Dremel. (Check out the Dewalt cut-off disks though as other brands don't have the 7/8" arbor in a 4.5" disk.) I have to admit that I'm not using this thing every day, but I would expect that for any user except a contract this should be all you need, and a at good price.

Great value - Does things other tools can't
I bought this a few weeks ago when Amazon had it marked down a bit more than normal. At the time I didn't know what I would use it for but figured it would come in handy at some point.Last week I needed to take apart a chair and one of the 1/2" bolts stripped. There was no room for a hacksaw or any other tool I had. This thing cut through the bolt, while easily avoiding damaging anything else, in less than a minute. The time I saved in that one use, even compared to a hacksaw if it had worked, paid for the tool.It is solidly built, comes with a bunch of disks, has a great case, and feels "solid" when used.I'm sure it's not the best angle grinder around. If you use one frequently I'm sure there are better quality grinders available. (Hence the 4 stars). However, if you only have an occasional need or want to have one of these on hand for when you will, I don't think this will let you down.

Decent Grinder
Needed a basic grinder for basic grinding. Only issue I had with mine was that it didn't come with the grind wheel. However, it wasn't that big of an issue for me. I have used this grinder for grinding a molcajete and garden tools and so far it has been a champ.
