Lots of Fowl Language and a Clucking Good Read
If you've ever considered raising chickens for hobby or profit, this is the book you MUST HAVE. Plamondon's prose is eminentlyreadable, and his advice is spot on target. Drawing from ancientsources as well as modern, he's produced a definitive guide tothe care and raising of chickens for eggs or meat. Not some ivory-tower academic, Plamondon provides detailedguidance to methods of poultry production, using materials andequipment commonly available to anyone on a budget. You'll makeback the price of this book in just your first brood or two, inreduced chick mortality alone. Buy this book. It's good advice from a working farmer who knowshis stuff, and has the writing skills to communicate well.

It doesn't get any clearer than this!
Robert Plamondon has packed more great information about chick brooding into this book than can be found in any other current "how to" poultry book. The author combines his own chick brooding experiences with still valuable material from out-of-print poultry books, and shows the reader how to apply it using new technology. It is well illustrated with both old and new photos. This book is a must have if you want to raise chicks. I wish it had been available when I first started, but I have it now!

Great Advice from a Trustworthy Source
Plamondon raises chickens and eggs at his successful Oregon pastured poultry operation. He is also a respected member of the internet poultry mail groups. He has gleaned the best of the past--tried and true information--the almost lost "Secrets of the Past Poultry Masters".The Ohio Brooder plans alone are worth the price of the volume. The guidelines are suitable for all climates and breeds. The book is strong on up-to-date nutritional and disease control information, and explainations of what does and does not work.Easy to understand charts and illustrations help the novice and experienced poultry person to grasp the concepts. Plamondon writes in an easy to read, engaging style.Highly recommended!

Product Description

Baby chicks—can anything be more adorable? So cute, so soft, so helpless! Give your baby chicks a great start by reading the only book devoted to them, Success With Baby Chicks.

Robert Plamondon had to read over a hundred poultry books to discover the sure-fire techniques in Success With Baby Chicks, and he tested them on his farm to find the ones that will work best for you. These techniques were used on millions of family farms in the golden age before factory farming, and were then forgotten—until now! Learn how to choose a good hatchery and a good breed, what kind of heat source to use, how to prepare the brooder area for your baby chicks, what to feed them, and how to avoid common mistakes. All of this is explained so clearly and completely in one slim volume that it has received praise from children, hobbyists, farmers, and poultry scientists alike.

Whether you brood five chicks or five thousand, this is the book for you, because its practical methods work with flocks of any size. And it will save you money. Learn how to build an insulated brooder in two hours for $20, keeping your chicks warmer and more comfortable than with overhead heat lamps, and saving two-thirds of the electricity into the bargain!

Robert Plamondon is a writer/farmer/engineer who has been awarded 17 U.S. patents and raises free-range chickens on his farm in Oregon. Top to learn more

A review for my favorite Beanie Baby
I'm not sure why, but this is my favorite beanie baby. I bought it over 10 years ago for $6. It was worth every penny. It's just so cute and fun looking. I dragged this around with me everywhere I went. The only downside to it is that its white, and after the 10 years traveling with me, it has gotten dirty. That's why I want to get another one. The price for this is great. Get it, you'll like it.

Cutest chicken ever!
I bought this for my wife which is said to be a chicken! Haha no she's not, my family and I gave her that nickname and well she seemed to like it quite a bit. On our anniversary I bought her this and a card with a chicken and she loved it! The toy is small and nice, durable if you don't give it to your dog, and its nice to have if you like to sleep with stuffed animals. Great little treat for your special one.

Eggbert the Chick Beanie Baby
This item was ordered with a similar Ty product, the small bunny. It completely meets my expectations in that these two beanies will be added to an Easter basket. The "fun" is in their cuteness.

What medicated chick starter feed does not do is guarantee your chickens will not get sick from coccidiosis or cure an outbreak amongst them.   Medicated chick starter feed is created solely for the purpose of preventing Coccidiosis. The purpose of medicated chick starter is to prevent the disease of coccidiosis, an intestinal parasite.

And the little chicken land mines left all over the floor when the chicks were done was not pleasant to mop up.   My second batch of baby chicks I bought in mid July. Baby chicks need to be at about 90 degrees for the first week or two of their lives. We could have actually just put the brand new baby chicks right into the coop with a heat lamp if we had it finished before we bought them. With the weather so warm there is no need to keep baby chicks in the house at all, which is very ideal. Since you generally buy the chicks within days of being born, you must keep them under a heat lamp in a warm, dry environment for a minimum of 2 weeks. I wanted to let my chicks free range, feel the earth beneath their little chicky feet and pick at the dirt until they find a little worm or special treat.

He loved them and they followed him around, although he did have a coop and a chicken wire enclosure that they stayed in. I didn't care either way about them ~ I was a young teen at that point. I did care when my parents went on a cruise one year and I had to get the friggin eggs out of that coop. It does smell inside the coop, so get your nose clothespin ready.
