Comparing AppleTV to Roku2 XS
I own both the new Apple TV (1080P/2012) model and the Roku2 XS. I found myself doing a side by side comparison of the two products and here are my findings.AppleTVPros: Works out of the box, minimum effort to setup, really easy to use interface + wifi. Can Restream old purchased episodes. Netflix App much cleaner and more superb. Streaming and buffering causes no delays or degradation of picture. If you have bought into the Apple iOS ecosystem, the AppleTV is a flexible and useful addition. Snap a picture on your iPhone and it will be in the PhotoStream screen saver on your TV within minutes. Well designed
This mount works great. The selection of Garmin mounts is confusing as some are two parts and some are one. If you have a Nuvi with the included windshield mount, then this is the only part you need to buy. The included mount disassembles at the ball and socket joint and attaches to this one. I can't say it will never come off the dash if I do some really high speed maneuver, but so far it's held steady for all regular driving.I like that it's easy to move the mount and gps unit down to the floor when I park. Yeah a thief could still see it if they came right up to my car but at least it's not obvious from halfway across the parking lot like a windshield mount is. A thief that sees an empty windshield mount is probably going to assume (correctly) that I've just put the unit in the glove compartment.

Finally, the right mounting solution
I have become addicted to my Garmin Nuvi 660 and used it for six months with a successful windshield mount. But now I have bought a new car. I discovered that the windshield suction mount left an ugly black ring on the window of my old car. (I assume I can get this cleaned up when I detail the car for selling.)So no way was I going to put one of those on my beautiful new car. I tried the Garmin dashboard mount but shied away from the "permanent" disc. I found the "temporary" disc was just not up to the job of holding this device in place -- at least on my vehicle. I found this very frustrating. I read about the Portable Friction Mount, found a Best Buy store that had it in stock and ran out to buy it.Though it is not terribly good looking, it does the job very well. Best Solution for NUVI in my Prius and my Ford: Theft Protection As Well!!
My Prius has a rough dashboard and a windshield that slopes very sharply. Thus, the suction cup mounts are not good solutions. Fortunately, the friction mount is a great solution. It works much better than I expected. Very stable, does not slide, and lets me adjust my Nuvi to a variety of different angles. I can place the GPS anywhere on the dash or even on the center console. Also works great when transferred to my wife's Ford.Only downside to the device is that it has a rather large footprint, but not prohibitively large. I like the fact that I can easily use this in both of our family vehicles depending on where we need the GPS.UPDATE: Now that I have used this mount regularly since May, I have to say this is the best mounting solution I've found for a GPS or any other device for my car. Sweet! FYI - remote via amazon lacks 3 shortcut buttons
New to Roku, so far love it. I was debating which version to buy just as LT became available here on Amazon. Sweet! My only complaint (minor) is that the remote is not the 'new' one with 3 shortcut buttons. Roku customer support claims you only get that version if you buy directly from Roku. He also said it's not available at their online store as an accessory. I wonder if that will change in the future? I was a tad sad but then read you can't remap those three buttons; at least for now they are fixed. If it matters to you buy from Roku. It doesn't matter enough to me to return and repurchase, or to potentially pay shipping. I can't compare LT to other versions as this is my first box. So far it's a winner: minima setup, easy online interface, love the channels, including NBC news programs updated each day. I may be joining the cable cutters very soon now! Top to learn more

This is a review of the newest addition to the Roku streaming media player line-up, the Roku LT, of which I was given a unit to test and evaluate by Roku. I am the owner of several versions of Roku players, so I have plenty of experience using these wonderful devices. Included in my stable of Roku players is the original "PICO" player, of which I purchased one of the first two thousand units sold in the US. I also own a 2nd generation XD|S player, as well as a 3rd generation Roku2 XS, the top-of-the-line unit at the time of this writing. It's a lot of functionality for a reasonable price but with a few drawbacks
For the most part, the initial reviews here are pretty much accurate, so I'm going to add just a few observations that may be useful to others. Basically, I like the little guy quite a lot and it delivers a lot of value for not a heck of a lot of money. Otherwise:The remote: Unlike some assertions that it uses RF communication (no line of sight necessary), the remote that came with the unit I just set up is ordinary IR. This is a good thing if you plan to use it with most types of universal remotes.Wireless: It's Wireless "N" at 2.4GHz. In my opinion, this is a pretty poor design decision due to the overwhelming crowding of the 2.4G band in many places. 5GHz "N" has been around long enough that the hardware to implement it is marginally, if at all, more costly than the lower frequency band. I suppose their excuse could be that "most people still use 2.4GHz" or "2.4GHz yields stronger signals in typical houses", but if you can't get ANY signal at all due... Top to learn more

Well, now having the need for a wireless N network I did a bit of research into which router I should buy. After reading so many positive reviews, I kept teetering on whether or not I should try this one out... especially since I hadn't heard of the company and the price point was so low. Eventually I figured "what could it hurt" and ordered it. I immediately got an email from the company thanking me for the order which included the support information if needed. That was a nice touch.The bottom line is that I'm VERY glad I ordered this. Set up was a breeze if you follow the very simple instructions to the letter. The easiest router I've ever set up.
I have to admit I was nervous about buying something that doesn't have a huge name behind it. I've dealt with plenty of routers in my time and some of them are so confusing to configure, and caused so many headaches. When I opened the box I was greeted by a small, light-weight, sleek looking box...I have to say that I was really excited about the internal antenna, those old parallel antenna were the worst thing to look at. Being the typical computer guy I am I didn't really read through the directions, I just grabbed it and plugged it in. I reset the modem, then reset the router (by power cycling, not the reset button on the back) and.......it worked. I logged into the web interface and set up the Wifi security, grabbed my laptop to connect to it and.....it worked.The wireless N is a thing of beauty for someone that has been stuck with G for so long, it's fast and has great coverage, I was able to get a stronger signal outside than before.The web interface is... UPDATE (12/11/2011): I've had this for about a year now, and I have still never had a problem with it. I've left it on/plugged almost the entire time, but when I've had to unplug it (e.g., to move a computer desk), it has reconnected almost instantly when I plugged it back in.
