Contact...Very Nice
Boney has done it again! Boney has stayed true to his signature sound, can you hear that sax? Sure there are vocals on this disc, but the SAX is STILL the lead voice on this album! On the vocal tracks, they seem to compliment each other, his unmistakeable sound still shines through. "Deep Time"-Sexy, "Cry", "Spin", "There and Back" all Slammin' and yes I like "Close to You". Everyone won't be pleased, but hey...... If you are a Boney fan, pick this up, I think you'll enjoy it, if not, play it again! Stay Smooth...dlm

Parting the waters of hate...
What can I say? I like the album. Boney James handles his business as usual. I'm buying because it's Boney. That being said, the issue of vocals in jazz albums will never rest. Some like it, some don't. I've had a couple of listens and his sound is evident throughout even during the vocal selections. In addition to contemporary jazz, I like R&B. The critics of this albums vocals miss the fact that what passes for R&B today can't hold a candle to the 4 songs on this set. The jazz purist can never be satisfied. Smooth Jazz stations are going by the wayside all over America; so how can an artist with Boney's talent continue to be relevant? As if no one has ever heard jazz, rock or pop music on a R&B CD. Trust me, the man knows his audience and his roots. His factoring in some vocals is no crime.
