sooooo good!
Usually I'm disappointed by the second and third books in a series. The first book creates the world, involves me in character's lives, and I end up buying the rest of the trilogy (or series) based on the strengths of the first book.... but am not as impressed by the subsequent books. Chameleon was different!I got the book this morning- was able to find some free time this afternoon to finish it- and I can't wait to read the third book in this trilogy! The suspense was increased without making it too over the top, there are quirkier characters introduced while keeping the ones you love, the drama is more intense while still remaining believable, and the descriptions still draw beautiful mental pictures (both of locations and- my favorite- what glass/stone/wood "taste" like when you ripple). Also, big props for not rehashing the entire plot of the first book within the first chapter of the second book (a la Rowling). I was able to dive right back into the world created...

awesome... couldn't put it down!!
i read the first two books in two days... i just could not put them down... unfortunately i finished the second book at 11pm which is the only reason why i didn't buy the third book right away. i knew that i wouldn't get to sleep at all if i started reading it.i love the tempo of the story, it never gets boring but still it does not seem rushed.i am already sad when i think aboub that the next book is also the last... i would love more to read about sam and will and everybody else in the book!!

Beautiful Chameleon
My nephew has this chameleon and it is beautiful. I am thinking about buying it for my son to decorate his room as well as to play with. Nice size and very vibrant colors. The long tongue is also a nice touch! If you know a child who loves chameleons this would be a great toy. For a gift this would be great combined with Eric Carle's book the Mixed Up Chameleon!

Excellent toy!
5 stars indeed! My 4-year old son is obsessed with chameleons and I ordered this one to put in his little Valentine's gift basket. I know he will take it everywhere. It is a good size and just the right material: not too hard, a little flexible yet durable. It is beautifully painted and I am surprised to see such evident quality and detail in a toy these days. Also, I'm impressed to find that it is phthalate-free. This will be a favorite for many years and great for educational use. Thanks, Safari, I am now in the market for more of your beautiful, detailed, educational toys!

Product Description

Women are dying in Kerr Memorial Hospital. They are dying at an alarming rate from post-operative wound infections which are resistant to antibiotics and the authorities cannot find the source of the problem. As the situation threatens to get out of control, the hospital staff are under mounting pressure and nerves are stretched to breaking point.

The Home Office send an outsider, surgeon Scott Jamieson, to investigate and Jamieson soon finds himself in a maelstrom of accusation and counter-accusation. Is this outbreak the result of deliberate contamination or just a freak strain of bacteria? As he tiptoes through a minefielf of explosive personalities, Jamieson begins to suspect that the truth might be far more horrific than anyone could have imagined in their worst nightmares.

Ken McClure is the internationally bestselling author of over twenty medical thrillers such as The Lazarus Strain, The Gulf Conspiracy, White Death and Dust to Dust. His books have been translated into twenty-three languages and he has earned a reputation for the accuracy of his predicitions. McClure's work is informed by his background as an award-winning research scientist with the UK's Medical Research Council.

This book was first published by Simon & Schuster Ltd. (UK) in 1994

Author's note : -

This title introduced the concept of the Sci-Med Inspectorate - a small investigative unit located in the UK Home Office - which was to become the basis for my Dr Steven Dunbar series of novels. Top to learn more

The Unofficial First Dunbar?
I don`t know the order of McClure`s novels, but this feels like it could be the protoype of a Dr. Dunbar novel. Sci Med is present. The protagonist Jaimeson is a rich character, and the plot is engaging. If you like Dunbar, you will like this novel.

Very Good Book
This book, with it's combination of romance and mystery, was one I just couldn't stop reading. Although you had inklings of who the culprit might be, you really didn't know until the end. Usually I have figured it out by then, but not this one! A very good read.

A ripping yarn
I'm unfamiliar with this author's work, but enjoyed the novel.Except for a noir novel I read a while ago, I can't remember a protagonist who gets hurt as much as young Dr. Jamieson does. First the car crash that ends his surgical career, then a harrowing episode involving a heater (which apparently really was an accident, not an early attempt to kill him), then getting beaten up by punks ("yobs"), then...But he soldiers on with true British grit.A few quibbles: the text was riddled with punctuation errors, e.g. "That's what I said doctor." The wife is in peril, not once, but TWICE, whereupon the text breaks out into frantic exclamation points! Only one lulu: a man with his hands bound behind him can, a few sentences later, put his head in his hands....and is still bound a paragraph or two after that. The ending feels a bit rushed, but I was clueless as to the killer's identity until about 3/4 of the way through, when the author coyly includes the name in a...

Cama cama cama, cama chameleon
The concept of photography as an art is finally coming into its own. Once reluctant art centers are placing their Edward Westons alongside their Claude Monets. As recently as 2004 the very first Caldecott Honor was given to a picture book that contained photography in some way (it was "Knuffle Bunny" by Mo Willems). And Joy Cowley has singlehandedly reinvented the notion of the photographic picture book. Having begun this process with "Red-Eyed Tree Frog" (a title that National Geographic Press must feel they should've gotten first dibs on), Cowley has once again paired with photographer extraordinaire Nic Bishop with the multi-colored and magnificent, "Chameleon, Chameleon". Until these last two books, the notion of a fictional photographic tale has never been properly realized ("Stranger In the Woods" by Carl R. Sams does NOT count). Now all that has changed and Cowley & Bishop can be commended for formenting an entirely new genre in the picture book oeuvre. No small...

In 1981 Kenya stopped exporting Jackson’s Chameleons, so if you buy a Jackson’s Chameleon on the mainland, it most likely has Hawaiian origins. With their expressively human-like face and color changing ability, Jackson’s Chameleons are often welcome visitors and are commonly kept as pets. of Agriculture permit to import Jackson’s Chameleons from Kenya to Hawaii in order to sell them in his shop. The original shipment of Jackson’s Chameleons to Hawaii was only several dozen, but the numbers quickly grew. All Hawaiian chameleons are descended from the original shipment to Ventura’s pet shop in 1972. If you spend enough time outside in Hawaii you’re bound to see a Jackson’s Chameleon sooner or later. Coloration is based on the lizard’s emotional state due to things like interaction and proximity to other chameleons, light, temperature, and response to outside stress or predators.
