Buy this one. much better than the more expensive, model.
I lost a cutlass just like this one, In moving. I decided after moving again it's time to replace it. I originally had searched amazon, for it and found a diffrent seller for a higher price. I rolled the dice and decided to buy this one. The other one, had a very shacky blade. This blade is solid, you swing the sword and it cuts through the also, my previous cutlass had leather pealing of scabard, not the case here.I highly recomended this weapon. Caution; its very, very sharp!

Excellent costume piece
My only complaint with this sword is that the tip of the scabbard fell off immediately upon removal of the box. However, with just a dab of super glue it's fixed back on permanently. Unlike Mr. Taylor's review, the sword I received is a finished metal blade with no black paint whatsoever. It is sharpened (although not too sharp) and the hilt is a gorgeous faux leather wrapped in wire thread. The skull and torches ripped straight from the poster of the second POTC movie is on the scabbard, which is a bit cheesy, but whatever. Good sword, great price.

I like this cutlass
I like this cutlass or short sword. Its sturdy and sharp and you can use the leather belt loop to attach it directly to your belt like any sheath knife. It is a short sword 25 inch blade so it kind of feels like a big machete or super huge bowie or something(with a sword like handle of course) Bottom line I am very pleased that I own it for self defense and I would buy another and I might buy more.

Fell in Love with This Knife
I just spent a weekend putting this knife through the paces at a mountain cabin. If you don't want to read the whole review, I'll just say it's the perfect option for handling wood in the wild - great chopper, great splitter, not a bit unwieldy, and not too heavy to strap to a pack.First, my rant. Too many knives try to be the kitchen sink. But in reality, knife tasks break down into two broad categories: fine work like cutting cord, food, feather sticks, etc., and heavy work like chopping and batoning wood. In my opinion, a knife that's heavy and sturdy enough for the latter is too clumsy for the former. "Jack of all trades, master of none ... KA-BAR is Always a Solid Choice
I purchased this knife based on the brand name alone and I was not disappointed. It is very sturdy and handles most thick brush well. It is not as heavy as some other machetes I have used; I wouldn't use it to take down any small trees, but it serves well as a heavy utility knife and is perfect for camping.

Great weight, sturdy
Back home in Jamaica there were street vendors who would chop coconuts and sell them for a few cents. They could open a coconut with three quick strikes (i.e., chop away the husk and then crack the top of the nut inside just enough so that the coconut meat was left intact). You could then tap out the hole and drink the water from inside. Once that was done, you'd hand it back to the vendor and with one strike they'd cut the coconut in two to get to the coconut meat. They'd also slice off a piece of the husk to use as a spoon.I'm happy to say that I can now do the same with this machete. Well, it takes about five strikes to clear the husk, but I can chop it open with a single strike now. It's an almost perfect weight for this sort of task. Not too heavy that you'd get tired, but enough so that gravity can do lots of the work. First on market with a Bush Cutlass Machete.
I am a collector of edged weapons, swords/knives/spears/machetes/clubs etc. I am also a very big fan of Cold Steel products among others. I have several pieces from Condor Tool & knife Co. all are well made, very solid,well priced and simply made (I only purchase carbon steel items from them). I saw on the Cold Steel web site, their 2012 catalog and that this year they were offering some new sword styled machetes, one of which is a Cutlass/Sabre blade, their previous offerings, the Gladius & Katana machetes are 1st class items and low priced to boot,and were very well received by customers. I knew that it would be several months before the new Cutlass blade was made available, I also knew that Condor was already offering that same style machete, well I could not wait so I ordered the Condor blade. I received it a couple of days ago, the blade is 1075 carbon steel, it very well made, VERY sharp (much sharper than any Cold Steel machetes), so sharp in fact that there is NO need for me...

Good and well balanced
Overall it is a good balance and feel. I purchased "Pirates of The Caribbean" style before and never liked the way it felt,was bulky,disappointing and thrown into storage. Not wanting to drop money on the 1917 Cold Steel cutlass or holding my breath for there machete version I ordered this one. I agree the handle is a bit "Meh" but the balance feels right. The sheath is good quality. The Carbon steel has a good spring to it as Cutlasses should. It is a bit pricey but I am happy with it and will keep it aboard my Sailboat to repel boarders or giant squid.Mike "CoyoteShark"

Not for the weak of wrist
I purchased the saber version many years ago from Cold Steel. It is a well made and a heavy, sturdy weapon. The item came packed in what appeared to be cosmoline to prevent it from rusting in warehouse storage. I cleaned it up with alcohol and acetone, and applied auto wax to the metal finish. The item has yet to rust with proper care and waxing.This item is heavy and the balance portion of the Cutlass is far forward from the hilt. This is standard for a weapon that is also designed to chop. It will take a great deal of wrist strength to wield the item properly. Be careful, this item is no toy!Also do not leave the item in its scabbard. The item has a leather scabbard that will attract moisture that may rust the item.I keep mine in the open on a display rack.

this thing is sturdy. I would wear a good leather glove with this if you plan to do some heavy chopping. Not katana sharp, but you could separate a limb with out too much trouble. Its so well put together that I want to take lessons from a qualified instructor.
