My son needed a cord to run X-Box Live. After looking at the cords that were specifically indicated for X-Box, I decided to just find a cord that was of the type needed. I found this very long blue cord that works great, and it's half the price of the other "X-Box" cords. Don't waste your money on those other cords. Buy this one. The AmazonBasics RJ45 Cat5e Ethernet cable is an excellent value when compared to name-brand cables from the likes of Belkin and others. You get the same quality cables but for less money. You no longer have to take the risk of buying random generic cables in order to find the best value. My only reservation is that Amazon's warranty is an anemic 1 year. Belkin typically offers a lifetime warranty on their cables. Every now and then cables go bad, but it's pretty rare unless you abuse the connectors.The PVC shielding is flexible enough so that you can wrap the cables easier. The RJ45 connector clips have a snag-free design so when pulling your cable from the tangled mess of other cables, it will not snag or break off. They are also gold-plated to resist corrosion but I have never had Ethernet cables corrode on me. I have crimped thousands of feet of Ethernet cables for work but none as nice as these.Cat5e is limited to 328 feet, just like Cat5. Cat5e however,... Top to learn more

What I was looking for...
Basic Review: Technical highlights are provided by others. When searching Amazon for network cables before coming across this one, I read other reviews by people who were disappointed with their purchases. This was because they thought that they were getting something similar to this product, when in fact, what they were getting was custom made or just the individual pieces. If you are looking for a no hassle network cable just like you would find in a retail store, then look no further. Cable good, plug bothersome
Cable is fine - no problems. The design of the plug, however, is a bit of a bother. The flexible, beige protector tab coming from the cable side of the plug makes sense - it is there (presumably) to protect the clear tab at the top of the plug - the one that "clicks" when you insert the cable into the jack. The problem is, the beige protector tab is too long. So when you plug it into certain jacks, the beige protector tab is not only in the way, it makes it more difficult to press down on the clear, clicking tab so you can take the plug out of the jack.What should be a "benefit" wasn't tested in enough jacks. The packaging might be "frustration-free," but the product itself has frustration built in. Not a big deal, but I won't buy this cable again. Top to learn more

The Seller will ship you this item very fast, however this Cat5E cable is used - not new. It states new but that's BS, because it shows wear from prior staples and white paint from walls. Also I feel the need to let everyone know that you truly don't know what type of cable they send u because it has no markings on it declaring it a Cat5E cable like all 100 or so I have. It may be or it may just be the older standard of Cat5, which is very irresponsible. Other than these few complaints the cable works fine and its long. Top to learn more

For Internet cable users, a great buy.
If you choose to use a wire-based Internet connection, like my father and I did for security reasons, this cable is long enough to connect a laptop on one side of an apartment to an Internet modem on the other side of the apartment. The protective covering is still holding up after several months of usage, and it is 50 feet in length, as advertised. Even if your cable has a lot of slack because you only needed, say, 35 feet of cable, you can safely wrap up the portion that isn't needed and conceal it under furniture so you avoid tripping on it. Effective but not durable-
So, I make a living pulling data cable and the such; I speak with some authority on the quality of this cable. The ends of the cable are terminated on to quality ethernet tips but by no means the upper end of the spectrum. The tips have the tab that depresses the standard clear clip/tab to release the tip from the port which is a nice addition. The doubled up sheathing just before the tip looks decent but doesn't feel like it could take that much abuse. My biggest complaint with this cable is that it just is not very durable. The outer jacket that covers the cable is, by comparison to patch cables used on computer racks, just not very tough. I would say that if you expect any foot traffic whatsoever on your 50ft patch cable that you avoid this because it just simple won't last. Unfortunately I don't know the gauge standard for the durability of the outer jacket. If the cable is going to sit with little if any movement then it would be OK...The price is right though. If you are making a permanent network and need a few cost effective cables get these! If you think you will need to unhook the cables or anything you may want to look elsewhere...PROS:+works at expected speeds+great length for going across a living room or computer lab.+no snag end protects the ends if being pulled through a wall or tight spaceCONS:-very difficult to unhook from the ethernet card (and I have tried it on 2 laptops, a desktop an xbox 360 and a ps3 with the same result on all)-minimal shielding means if you're going over florescent lighting or past live power you may lose data often.Overall it gets a 3/5 because it does work good for the casual computer user and it's really affordable but if you really know about computers you'll see a few flaws that would have been easy to remedy pre-production.
