Worth every penny
I've used virtually every dehydrator on the market and even a few home-made versions. Trust me when I say that this dehydrator is the best you can get for the money.The round tower-type dehydrators are inexpensive for a good reason: they aren't worth it.-The trays are flimsy and crack too easily.-The holes on these trays are too big to use with herbs or diced foods, so you must use the mesh inserts.-You only have about 1/2" of space between trays, so you cannot dry bulky items--like flowers or granola.-When it comes to fruit leather, the only thing more inefficient than the round shape is the hole in the middle. Yes, I know they come with fruit leather trays, but have you ever tried to store fruit leather pealed off of the tray and rolled up? A shredded mess to begin with and a sticky mess once they've stored for a while.-With the motor on the bottom any food or juices that fall through the cracks shortens the life of the machine.-The...

Great item, but what I wish I'd considered prior to buying...
We absolutely love our excalibur dryer - it works so much better than the cheaper, round versions that are out there. However, there are a few things we hadn't considered prior to buying that we wish we had:*****This model has no timer, thus no auto-off. If I had it to do over again I'd buy the one with the 26 hour timer for sure! We recently started a recipe only to realize it would be done at 4 a.m. - ugh! not a fun time to get up just to shut off the dryer!!*****There is no on/off switch, just the plug. I don't know if the model with the timer has an on off button or not, but I really hate items that don't offer one. Perhaps this is no biggie to most folks, but it really bugs me.*****This thing is BIG! We had to do some serious rearranging to make room for it on our counter, and unfortunately the only place it fits is right in the middle so that it's the first thing you see when looking at our kitchen from the den (we have an open concept floor...

Great machine
I've had my Excalibur for a while now and use it on a regular basis. Before purchasing it, I tried several of the round type, including the Gardenmaster. This dehydrator beats the round variety as it has the side fan and adjustable thermostat. The side fan means you very rarely have to rotate trays and it cuts the drying time. The Excalibur is also much easier to clean than the round dehydrators. Besides using it for drying food, I take the trays out and use it to raise bread and make yogurt. Don't bother with the 5 tray version - you'll wish you had went for the 9 tray instead. The added height inside the 9 tray makes it easy to use for raising a bowl of bread dough.

i ordered these non-stick dehydrator sheets for my new Excalibur dehydrator because they seemed to be the most reasonably priced pack that would most likely perform adequately. It was an outstanding purchase, and i am totally thrilled with these sheets. Makes you a guru in a day!
I had a Ronco dehydrator and needed to move up. I work all week and could only prepare foods to dry on the weekend. We get an organic farm share each week and my family was having trouble eating and processing it all before the next batch arrived. Once I got the Excalibur 9 tray, I was able to get all of my food dried with NO LOSS OF BATCHES. This thing has a thermostat and fan instead of relying on convection alone, so it works much more quickly. Now my family has gone RAW, and we make all sorts of food in the Excalibur. We use it several times per week and it is plainly AWESOME!!! This is what you need if you are really serious about drying foods or eating raw. Don't mess around - get the 9 tray and make BIG batches and save a lot of time.

LOVE this machine !
OK, let's clarify the amount of noise this machine puts out ... it is equivalent to the sound of the exhaust fan in our bathroom ceiling. It makes NO more noise than our dishwasher.Yes, it's a bit distracting if you are watching TV, but it's nothing that should stop you from getting this 9-tray machine. (We moved it from our kitchen to our garage because we have a small kitchen and needed the counter space. The noise was not a deciding factor.)It is absolutely WONDERFUL!We dehydrate chicken and beef for ourselves and our dog so that we NO LONGER have to purchase expensive, irradiated jerky made in China. (We can season it however we want to, with ingredients that we can tolerate in our digestive tracts - in other words, we no longer suffer from gastric disturbances.) We have also dehydrated pineapple rings and tomatoes.It's easy and fun, plus saves money. We run a batch at least once per week, sometimes more.I researched...

Kitchen Essential
I use this machine all the time and am so glad to have the full 9 tray version! I really do use all those trays quite often, making my own nutritious snacks that I can baggie up and eat later at home or on the go. It also fills my home with the scent of whatever I'm dehydrating at the time (which is generally some kind of delicious fruit)... very pleasant to come home to.

I finally bought one and am I glad!
This Excalibur dehydrator has exceeded my expectations. It makes great organic, "less sweet" fruit rollups and dehydrates cooked broccoli to a crunchy treat. It does make more noise than a fan so make sure to put it away from your bedroom if you will be running it overnight. Make sure to buy the Paraflexx sheets sold separately if you intend to make rollups. The recipe book is very helpful and quite extensive. I'm delighted with it and wish I had purchased this dehydrator sooner.

Wonderful product and I love it!!!
This is a great dehydrator that I recommend for all people who would like to save food in an economical way. The food is very, very tasty and also very convenient to use. Be careful of dehydrating onions though. I did and smelled up my house for weeks! The fan is loud and annoying to me but can't be helped. My kitchen is in the open right by the living room so we moved the dehydrator to a back bedroom and set it on a foldable table. That worked great until I did the onions and that stunk up the entire guest bedroom and I tried opening windows, washing bedding, putting out baking soda, and even coffee to try to deodorize the area. I also tried opening up windows and blowing fans--still have the smell. So, be careful of what you dehydrate.

Solid, well built, does the job
This was my first venture into dehydrating foods. After reading all of the reviews I made my choice to go with the Excalibur brand. I have been extremely pleased with the ease with which it works and the product it produces.With the fan in the back, all of the fruit and vegetables placed on a single tray appear to be drying at the same speed so there is no need to rotate the tray from front to back, However, I have found that when I have all 5 trays loaded, I need to rotate the trays vertically. I move the top tray to the bottom and each tray up one slot. I usually will only do this a couple of times in a 12 hour period. As the fruit and vegetables get smaller from dehydration the air is able to circulate better.The 5 tray size has been all we have needed so far but I could see a time down the road that I might have need for the 9 tray.

Awesome dehydrator.
This dehydrator rocks. I use it to make raw foods such as crackers & crusts and to dry sprouted seeds and nuts. It has worked well for my needs, feeding 2 people. The 4-tray unit may be too small for a family doing a lot of dehydrating. This unit doesn't have a timer. That's no problem, though. I just plug it into a grounded heavy-duty appliance timer. For the raw foodist, I recommend the Excalibur's square shaped drying surface design over the the round shaped dehydrators. I haven't purchased the rather pricey ParaFlexx sheets, but they would be handy for dehydrating things like spreads, yogurt, runny things, & thin crackers. The 4-tray unit dimensions are 16 1/2"L X 13"W X 6"H (Sorry, I'm metric illiterate). All dehydrator fans are going to make noise. I do not consider the 4-tray unit to be loud.

Make jerky the way you want at home
Been using this for a few months so far, and couldn't be happier. I love beef jerky as an everyday snack, but it can get expensive buying it at the store all the time. A coworker is big on do it yourself foods and told me how to make jerky at home and decided to give it a try. At first I was doing it in the oven, which worked decently, but he kept telling me about his Excalibur and how great it was. So I decided to throw down the money, and very happy I did.He had the 9 try version and that just seemed like way too much, which it would have been. I found this 4 tray and the price was pretty good at $100. I can do about 2 1/2 pounds at a time which is perfect. The Excalibur is so straight forward and easy to use. Theres no On/Off switch, so just plug it in and it turns on. The temperature dial even shows the type of foods you should be using at each temperature. (ex 155:meat, fish, 125:vegetables) This is good if you are not sure what to use. There is no timer, which is ok...

A workhorse
I bought this for my wife for Christmas and although there were some serious issues with the delivery of the product (we live in Alaska, so delivery issues aren't uncommon), we finally received it and my wife has been cranking out trays and trays of dried apples, strawberries, fruit rolls, etc. If it holds up as well as they claim, we'll be quite happy with it. So far, so good.

What I expected and wanted
I dehydrate alot of meat to make jerky. I used to use 2 of the 4 tray round dehydrators and even they they worked just fine, I find the 9 square trays hold alot more. And the trays are easier to clean and this machine runs so much more quiet. I def recommend !
