Enjoy!
This is an extraordinary show. The only minus is it was only on for three seasons. It is side-splittingly funny. You will be laughing out loud as Father Ted, Father Dougal and Father Jack, along with their housekeeper, Mrs. Doyle, stumble through life, almost demolish Catholicism, reveal the hypocrisy rampant in us all, and make social commentary that is incredibly witty, but is also bitingly accurate! Whether you're just looking for a laugh, or enjoy seeing pompous arse's brought down low, this show is for you. And as an added bonus, the location, the fictional "Craggy Island" is one of the most beautiful locations ever! You need this in your collection! And the Yuletide extra, "A Christmassy Ted" is worth the price all by itself!

Father Ted
Apparently the definitive Collection is not necessary if you already own The Holy Trilogy. That being said, I did not, and therefore found this to be a necessity to my tv on dvd collection. Although most of the special features aren't vital, it's nice to see Ted & Dougal's TV spots and to here the actor who portrayed Dougal joke about on his commentaries. If you've already seen Father Ted, and enjoy it, this is worth the price, and will provide plenty of laughs for you, and the people you know who weren't fortunate enough to stumble upon this on there own. If you haven't seen this show, well a brief synopsis would be it focuses on three priests (In the looses sense) one a monosyllabic drunkard, another a man child, and the third, the title character, just happens to always be in the wrong place in the wrong time (and is probably an embezzler) and how they really want to just be normal people (which doesn't stop them from using there priest status when it benefits them) on an...

A Great TV Series Finally on DVD
Positively one of the greatest TV series that I have ever seen. It has a lot of funny moments based around a Catholic priest (Father Ted)in a town on a small island of the coast of Ireland. There are many unexpected twists and turns that are always there for comic relief. Father Ted, Father Doogle, and Father Jack all unknowingly make a mockery of the Church in their attempt to do good. Doogle is undoubtedly the funniest of the bunch, as he is not too bright and you are never quite sure what he is going to say. This is a definite must, especially since the man playing the part of Father Ted died not too long ago, and you might not get another chance to see this great TV series.

Join Fathers Ted, Dougal and Jack, three Irish priests exiled by the Church to their own private Purgatory, a twisted lump of rock called Craggy Island, as penance for indulging in their daft vices. Features all episodes from series one. Top to learn more

Father Ted is one of those rare sitcoms that defies categorization--it owes as much to Flann O'Brien and Samuel Beckett as it does to Monty Python--and its blend of satire, character comedy, and anarchic surrealism has made it a cult favorite around the world.

Exiled to remote Craggy Island, Father Ted Crilley shares a house with the breathtakingly stupid Father Dougal and the constantly inebriated Father Jack, who has a small vocabulary and a taste for furniture polish. Their housekeeper, Mrs. Doyle, takes care of them with a never-ending supply of tea and sandwiches: "Go on now, Father, won't you try one? They're diagonal." Together they fight boredom by dressing up as Elvis, startling ducks at the fair, and provoking nuns.

This DVD contains the entire first season of Father Ted--six episodes of inspired lunacy including a visit from the excruciatingly dull Father Stone, Mrs. Doyle's solemn recitation of all the bad language in Ted's favorite novel, and the death and resurrection of Father Jack. Packed with great lines and hilarious characters, Father Ted gets better with every viewing. --Simon Leake Top to learn more

Nuns! Nuns! Reverse!
If you like Father Ted, this is the 2-DVD set to buy. 10 unbelievably funny episodes starring Dermot Morgan, Ardal O'Hanlon, Frank Kelly, and Pauline McLynn (the aunt in "Angela's Ashes"). With 2 hilarious appearances by Graham Norton. Some highlights are: "The Plague," in which Dougal's black and white bunny multiplies, much to the horror of Bishop Brennan (who fears rabbits due to his unfortunate experience of being trapped in an elevator with several of them); and "Song for Europe," in which Ted and Dougal steal a catchy tune to use with their own lyrics ("My Lovely Horse") in order to win a songwriting contest. Some of the lyrics go like this:"My lovely horse running through the field,Where are you going, with your fetlocks blowing in the wind,I want to shower you with sugar lumps, and ride you over fences,I want to polish your hooves every single day and bring you to the horse dentist." The best part of the episode is Dougal's dream sequence, which...

"That would be an ecumenical matter!" - Father Jack
TV comedy doesn't get any better than this! Father Ted Series 2 is even better than Series 1. The laughs are unstoppable with episodes like:..."Hell" - Father Ted, Dougal and Father Jack go on holiday in a miniscule caravan, only to have it invaded by the hilarious screeching Father Noel (played by So Graham Norton's very own Graham Norton)and his riverdancing youth group."Tentacles of Doom" - The Bishops are coming to elevate the Holy Stone of Clonrichert to a level II holy relic and Ted must train Father Jack to say things other than "Feck!", "Drink! and "Girls!". The outcome is ROFL funny."Cigarettes And Alcohol And Rollerblading" - Lent has never been scarier! They enlist Sister Assumpta to help them hold their Lenten vows, however Sister Assumpta has different ideas about Lent which include sleeping on bricks, starvation and torture.

"My lovely horse, running through the field..."
Ever want to go on holiday and see "Saint Kevin's Stump", stay up until "10 past the 11" doing the riverdance with Father Noel Furlong? Maybe you'd like to meet the "Dancing priest", the "Spinmaster", or the "most boring Priest in the world"? You might just like to see Fathers Ted and Dougal in the obligatory video for "My Lovely Horse", attempt to give up Cigarettes and Rollerblading, or covered in raw sewage! At the very least you could have a cup of tea or some cake with cocaine, excuse me, raisins in it! Remember not to roll up the "magic road" and don't go to far down the "Bob Geldof road". Well, if you're interested in any of the above then Father Ted: The complete series 2 is for you! This, the hilarious 2nd season of Father Ted is collected on two discs with 5 episodes on each disc. The episodes included are: 01. Hell:"You've a lovely voice, very like Celine Dion"02. Think fast, Father Ted:"Off to see the Dancing Priest"03. Tentacles of Doom:"Dougal, we are...

A word about the DVDs
As other reviewers have noted, Father Ted remains one of the most consistently funny TV shows ever. Of course, there were only 25 episodes (counting the Christmas special), so it never had a chance to vary in quality as longer-running series have. Comparisons with The Simpsons are apt, but Father Ted owes more to Fawlty Towers than to any other series. If you like either of those shows, you won't be disappointed with this one.The quality of the DVDs is surprisingly high considering the relative obscurity of the show in the U.S. The series is spread amply over five discs, and you should definitely invest in The Holy Trilogy, rather than buying the seasons separately. (If you're not sure you want to make the bigger investment, then you should go with Season 2, which was the funniest.) The transfers are as good as can be expected from a TV show, which is lower in quality than film because of differences in source quality. The extras are quite good, though never as good as the...

Fecking brilliant!
The series explores the antics of a trio of priests and their loyal if insane housekeeper stranded on Craggy Island (just of the coast of Ireland, "where they dump the old glow in the dark"). When I first saw the trailers for it I thought it would not be that funny, but a friend convinced me to watch an episode. The blend of the surreal story-lines and tight scripts make it a comic masterwork. The box should include a warning that it may induce loss of bladder control.

Should have a warning label!
I kid you not when I say this DVD set nearly killed me. I've never had asthma or other breathing problems, but people who do might want to pick up something more formulaic like Full House or Family Matters that's guananteed not to make you laugh. From the first episode, I found myself not just chuckling, but full-out laughing at this show and before I was done with the first of the five discs, I was convinced the set was worth every cent I'd paid.Somewhere during the second season, tragedy nearly struck. During Ted and Dougal's caper of hiding a herd of wild bunnies from a bishop who is afraid of rabbits, a series of jokes were grouped too closely together! I hadn't stopped laughing from the first when the second hit me. By the time the scene culminated in an impeccibly delivered punchline, I couldn't breathe and fell to the floor gasping and choking for air. My girlfriend, who watched the entire event in disbelief, declared it a miracle I hadn't wet my...

"Those women were in the nip!"
Finally the long awaited final season of Father Ted comes to DVD! Season 3 originally aired from March to May 1998 and it is just as strong as Seasons 1 & 2 in writing, laughs, and brilliant performances by Dermot Morgan (Ted), Ardal O'Hanlon (Dougal), Frank Kelly (Jack), and Pauline McLynn (Mrs. Doyle). Its obvious that Father Ted would not have ended as soon as it did if not for the unfortunate and untimely passing of Dermot Morgan (1952-1998) at age 45. Its also completely understandable that the show could not continue without him. Father Ted is one of the most original and hilarious sitcoms ever and like another sitcom on BBC video, Black Adder, it accomplished more in its 24 episodes than countless other sitcoms did in hundred episode runs: Brilliant writing and laughs that only increase with each episode. God Bless Father Ted and all those involved in creating this masterpiece. The season 3 DVD set consists of 2 DVDs with all 8 episodes. I'm also very happy to say that...

"Ruud Guillet, sitting on a shed?"
The third and final series of Father Ted consists of 8 fantastic episodes. While possibly not quite as great as the second series, the series still bows out on a high note, as Father Ted himself (Dermot Morgan) died right after the season was shot - a poignant montage of highlights from all three series marks the end of the last episode, a fitting way to make his legacy.None of this should overshadow 8 brilliant half hours that range from farcical to surreal. The running "phone" jokes from the second series are largely absent, but a bunch of old characters re-appear. Perhaps the best episode is Speed 3, where Dougal must keep a milk float above 4 mph or be blown to pieces ("The Poseidon Adventure - there was a priest in that!").The second DVD includes the 1996 Christmas special, an hour-long episode that is equally hilarious -although at times one does get the feeling that the writers are knowingly stretching some jokes to fill time (a la the...

Father Ted Series 3 - 2 DVD Set
Plain and simple - Its great! I finally got to see "The mainland" episode! I never saw it on BBC America, unless I missed it sometime, I don't think it was aired. This set has so many extras! The episodes even have sections that BBCA cut out from time to time, to make them fit in 30 minute time slots, I guess. If you love Father Ted as I do, you HAVE to get this!Dermot, you are VERY MUCH missed! Too bad more of this wonderful show could not have been made! Series 1,2 and 3 plus the Christmas episode was not enough! This cast was perfect!

Equal parts Marx Brothers, Black Adder, and James Joyce, Father Ted is inspired lunacy with a rural Irish twist. This set contains the final season of the BBC series; Father Ted abruptly ended in 1998 with the death of its talented, comic star, Dermot Morgan. The eight episodes here are a little uneven, but the best stuff is classic, laugh-out-loud satire, including "Are You Right There, Father Ted," in which Morgan's titular Catholic priest is re-banished to Ireland's Craggy Island, a green rock replete with paranoid sheep, randy milkmen, Nazi memorabilia collectors, and an inexplicably large community of Chinese immigrants. Outstanding, too, is "Speed 3," in which Ted discovers that a number of babies recently born on Craggy all look like a self-made swinger named Pat Mustard. "Kicking Bishop Brennan Up the Arse" speaks for itself, and "The Mainland" gives supporting actor Ardol O'Hanlon (as idiotic fellow cleric Dougal) a great showcase. --Tom Keogh Top to learn more

Buy Father Ted

His father Ted (Peter Mullen), who bought the horse while slightly drunk did so partly because he could spot a quality horse, but also because he wanted to spite his landlord, Lyon (David Thewlis) who kept raising the bid in a effort to shame Ted.  As happy as Albert is to see the horse, his mother Rose (Emily Watson) is far from thrilled because she knows that there’s no way that they can afford the horse and by buying it, Ted has put the entire family at risk.  Lyons reluctantly agrees to give them until Autumn but he’s convinced that there’s no way Ted will be able to plough the rough field with Joey in time.  Later however, a massive rainstorm ruins the turnip field and Ted sells Joey to a British cavalry officer named Captain Nicholls (Tom Hiddleston) to save the farm.  Lucky for Ted, Lyons has a thing for Rose and she convinces him to give them more time. Sure enough, Lyons comes calling for the rent and Ted doesn’t have the money.  Before losing Joey, Albert tells him that he will find him again one day and he ties his father’s old regimental pennant to Joey’s bridle.  Joey and Topthorn are first cared for by two young German boys but they (along with Joey’s pennant) are obtained by other parties when tragedy continually follows the horses and those who care for them.
