great little book!

Bold colors, nice flag
This flag is a silky polyester - as opposed to a stiff material. It is somewhat transparent. A nice flag. I wish it had wash/care recommendations with it. I'll hand wash it just to be safe.

A Great book ! although lacking in some areas
This book is very very good. It is not a professional book but it serves its purpose.There are some areas where it lacks some information - Someone mentioned that Italy's counties/provinces' flags are not included, well, this is true for many countries who have these - Argentina for example has no flag other the national one although it has many provinces which are huge in area.The info for each flag is scarce however it is very interesting and in many flags you get a closeup of the main emblem like in the Mexican flag where you can see what is drawn inside.I like the page where you get some info regarding the typology of the flags like all the flags who are tricolored or tribanded.I bought this book for my 8 y/o son who is a fantaic of flags and often finds errors in flags drawings and publications.I am already waiting for his findings...The price of this book is ridiculouos ! it costs less than the shipping to my country !The paper quality...

quite exhaustive collection of information
All about flags. Colors, details, aspect ratios, dimensions. It was quite all very interesting. Great trivia sources, for example, which are the only two countries that have a perfectly square flag ? which is the only country to have a flag completely of one color ?The book also goes into details explaining the coat of arms and the history it references. I found it interesting in knowing that the text in the south african coat of arms is from a now-extinct language.One thing I did notice: the editorial pressure of not offending the People's Republic of China must have been such that the flag of TIBET was NOT included (Hong Kong was...) It is such an interesting flag... so it did catch my attention...

Great reference but it could still be better
The book is well organized and illustrated, and I really like the fact it has many subnational flags; taht is one reason I purchased it, but for some reason it is missing subnations flags for a few larger countries, like Italy (e.g Italy's 20 regions have flags for example, many well known, like Sicily which are not included directly with Italy). Also I would like to see a larger section on civic, or city, flags.This is a great reference overall though.

Educational & Entertaining
I purchased this placemat along with . The quality is fine, and the size, and quantity of information is just right for capturing the attention of a third grader. Incidentally, this works great as a small wall poster. It's already laminated, so it won't curl, and light-weight enough that a piece of tape or a tack or two will easily keep it hanging. I plan to see what other types of placemats this company makes and purchase more.

Placemats--poor quality by Ruskin
Laminate already gave in after less than a month of not hard use. Got 6 in all-re-laminated all 6... Would love a credit-not enough money to go thru hassle of a refund-but buyer beware.

The best available book of its kind
I originally bought the first edition and reviewed that version. I've since bought the current edition (only because I was able to do so cheaply) and there aren't a lot of changes, the most noticeable being the different cover artwork, but the few changes inside the book are significant. For example, the incorrect pictures shown for Taiwan and Palestine in the first edition have now been corrected while new flags are shown, including those for Afghanistan (actually a revival of an earlier flag) and Tristan Da Cunha (not represented in the first edition). Other than those and other similar changes, the remainder of my review (listed on Amazon on all editions) applies equally to all editions.To begin with, this is not the book to buy if all you want is a guide to the current flags of each country around the world. You will find those flags here (accurate for when the particular edition was published, except for the mistakes in the earlier edition) but this book contains much...

Welcome to a Much Needed Reference Book
There has not been a comprehensive reference book about flags since Dr. Whitney Smith's "Flags Through the Ages and Across the World" was published in 1975. There have been a number of "observer" type books but now we have a scholarly work that goes beyond colorful images. Not that the images are neglected as this work supplies them in great quantity as well as quality, but there is also a well written text to accompany them. As another reviewer noted there are a number of pictorial errors (another is the Royal Banner of Scotland being substituted for that of the Dutch province of South Holland). However, these should not deter any potential purchaser to pass this book by as they would be missing a real treat. As someone who has been buying flag books and charts for more than thirty-five years (and who now goes to various on-line flag sites) I can readily say that this is the book that flag-lovers have been waiting for. Lots of potential, little new material
I had great expectations for this book, but opening it the first time I was let down by the overwhelming historical and heraldic content. I had to go 3/4's of the way back in the book to find the modern flags of the world. When I did find that portion of the book, not only wasn't it alphabetized, the descriptions and narratives about the flags were skimpy. I was expecting an alphabetized listing, showing ALL states, nations, territories, islands, dependencies, etc. with the coat-of-arms, date the flag was adopted, explanation of the colors/symbols on the flag,flag proportions, a current synopsis of the country's population, capital city, language, religion, land area included in the description, but only the name of the country, date of adoption and proportions were provided. It is a beautiful book, with great color illustrations, although there were several obvious errors, such as the flag of Taiwan, and Palestine (which pictured the flag of Spain) among others. My...

Great Flag
Although disappointed they didn't have a St. George Cross for sale, this is a great little flag! The mast is sturdy and slick looking. You're not fooling anyone with the painted gold tip, but it looks nicer than most I've seen. The flag itself is double sided and feels like its made out of the same material they make full flags out of, though it may be a bit thinner so that it behaves "to scale" in the wind/gravity. I'm quite satisfied.
