Safe, roomy home for your pet
I've had this cage for over a year now and I can say that it is one of the better choices for your pet.Some other reviews say it is difficult to clean, but I disagree and don't really understand why they are having problems. The top lifts strait out, you don't need to completely disassemble it and take the bars and side supports off to give it a good cleaning.As far as how well the cage holds together, I would say it is no better or worse then any other cage with plastic parts. If you want completely foolproof your better off with an aquarium, but of course then you don't get the fun tubes and accessories. Like I said earlier, I've had this cage a year and so far the wheel was the only thing to break, but this was easily replaced.I think this is the better choice over some of the other cages available for a few reasons. The first is its "square footage". The platforms and upper sleeping area on top of the cage makes it compact for you yet roomy...

Had it for 2 years, loving it!
I have had this exact cage for 2 years for my 2 year old, both female gerbils, and I love it!My gerbils absolutely love it, why?* Add ons - I have added an external, 360 degree wheel, an outhouse, and a circle add on. They love running around the wheels and pooping in everything but the outhouse, haha.* Cleaning - This isn't too bad to clean. Sure, a glass aquarium would be SO much easier to clean, I will say that. But I clean this cage once every 2 to 2.5 weeks, and it takes an hour, MAX. Simply take off the bottom, throw all the Aspen bedding (this works great for me too) away. Take a squirt bottle from the dollar store, fill it with half White Vinegar, half hot water. Squirt that around the bottom, and in the rest of the pieces. COMPLETELY RINSE!!!! with hot water, dry with a clean undershirt. Replace pieces while occasionally changing around the order of all the tubes, hahaha - all of these steps take 45 minutes to an hour and 15...

We like this cage!
Okay, I was worried about this cage from all the reviews, but since all cages we looked at had some problems, we went ahead and bought the CritterTrail 2. It was a little tricky to put together, but we figured it out and the one shelf we decided to use fit just fine. We also bought a second little CritterTrail cage and connected the two using the expansion tube pack. We even bought a little sky loft for the second cage. Everything has been fine. Our blackbear hamster loves her cage. She uses the wheel, she sleeps in the loft. We did get her the CritterTrail bottle with the little ball in it before we even left the store so we avoided the whole water bottle problem.We have had this cage a week and our hamster hasn't escaped. We will be cleaning it this today for the first time, but I don't plan on taking the whole thing apart. She doesn't even "go" in the main room so a little pulling out of the litter and putting some back through the door is all that we will do there. The...

Works great!
Hamsters do go to them. They love sitting in there grooming themselves and sometimes cooling down to sleep when the environment is hot. You will spend less time cleaning soiled cages if you use these potties. They were lifesavers when I used them. I bought like 3, five or six yrs ago and they still work great. Use 'Fresh Step' regular kitty litter with these. You can get it at any grocer. It turns out to be the best litter for odor control and the hammies don't appear affected or allergic to it. Every hamster I've ever owned has used this potty for a litter. If they don't go to it is probably because the type of litter affects their respiratory system.

Pee Only
Our hammie loves her pottie, and uses it exclusively to pee. She still poops all over the cage. Keeping the cage shavings dry is healthier for the animal. You can easily clean the potty every day, whereas cleaning the entire cage every day, or even every few days, can be impractical. She used it after about a day of is being there. She's had it for one year, and it's quite funny -- she gets up out of her igloo during her middle of the day's sleep, goes pee in her potty, takes a drink out of her bottle, and goes back to "bed" in her igloo.We use a pellitized wood shaving product for the potty. It's sold at the pet store, and is just different enough from the shavings that she treats it as what it is. I've never seen her put it in her mouth.

Good idea, but not too effective.
I have a pet gerbil named Jade who is getting quite old. Her sister died last year, and she's too frail to put up with a new companion introduction, so she lives on her own.As she got older, Jade began going to the bathroom in only one corner, which she had never done before. It became a hassle having to clean the whole tank so often because of all the "contents" being in one corner while the rest of the litter stayed clean. One day, I noticed this at the store and thought it would be an ideal solution. Best Mouse Wheel
I've had this wheel for about 2 years and it is still operating flawlessly. It has an appealing look, runs silently, and smoothly, which is important for faster running pets.Many people have complained about it breaking, but that has not been my experience. If you have a larger rodent you may try getting a bigger wheel. For reference I attached it onto a wire cage and have never used the stand that came with it.Edit: Read this if your wheel is breaking. As my review already says I have had a silent spinner for over 2 years without incident. However now I have two mice, two cages, and, of course, I bought another silent spinner. It broke after just a few days. After some inspection I realized that the problem was that the new cage had thicker bars, which were putting pressure on axle.I went back to the store and exchanged it for a new one. With a 5/64" drill bit I widened the opening slightly. Since then it has worked without incident...

Great Wheel
I own this wheel for my hamster and I have to say it's the best I've owned ever. It IS silent. But here are some tips to get the best use out of it.1. Make sure the wheel's stand is on top of a layer of bedding on a flat level surface2. After some time, the wheel will begin to rattle a little. This is because of the loosening between the colored and white part. To fix this, just put tape along that crack all around the wheel (make sure it's tight!)3. Setting the wheel at a diagonal angle against a corner is sufficient for not letting the wheel move and the sides hitting the side of the cage.

Good but not so good
I bought this wheel for my fat little hamster Teddy Pancakes and it worked really well for a while but after only about a month being in his cage the little plastic part of the axle that keeps it on the stand broke. I tried to hot glue it back together, that worked for about like and hour before the axle cracked in another place. So I got my hubby after it he used some industrial ties to close up the crack, THAT worked for another day and then the whole thing that attaches to the stand cracked almost all the way off. I really like this wheel because it looks cute and it is pretty much TOTALLY SILENT (only the stand makes loud noises as it hits the glass aqarium floor so if you buy this be sure to put a little extra bedding in and set it on top) but I wouldn't recommend it for hamsters it would probably work excellent for a mouse but the company just didn't design it sturdy enough for anything heavier than that.

My Hamsters loves this food
My black bear hamster Hershey loves this food. He always runs from the top of the cage, when he hears me filling his food bowl. I like how there is a lot of variety in this food, even though they are fatty foods in this diet. I like this brand of food for him, even though you get a little bag of food. It last a while, I will buy this food again, and also recommend this to anyone.

Like all things "Hamster and Gerbil" it's more hamster than gerbil...
This is one of the places where "hamster and gerbil" food can do the most damage. Gerbils have an instinct to gorge themselves on high fat foods...whereas hamsters will horde food in their bed for later consumption. Most commercial hamster/gerbil food is designed for HAMSTERS...and will contain a mix of sunflower seeds, peanuts...millet...oats...etc. Your gerbils...will eat out all of the sunflower seeds, peanuts...and pumpkin seeds first...and will only eat the millet, oats and green pellets when everything else is gone. If you feed your gerbils daily...you'll soon have plump gerbils in need of Gerbil Craig.Since there's only ONE commercial gerbil only food on the market...and it's made in the UK...you're probably stuck with one of the brands like Kaytee...which is pretty decent for one of the cheaper brands. There isn't a lot of dust in the package...the seed is well mixed...and the last bag I bought smelled really fresh and was insect free.But if you're...

Keeps my rodents happy!
I initially picked these up from the local pet store as a treat for my hamster and he loved them! I soon discovered that they were also a favorite treat for my rats, and now, all four eagerly look forward to treat time when this bag rattles!I bought extra because the pet store in question has stopped selling them and I can only find them here, on Amazon.
