It's awesome
Hawkins Pressure Cooker is really good. I had a "Prestige" earlier in which the washer broke and got misplaced. So, I bought this one. Prestige was leaking out water every time it whistled and made a mess of everything. Hawkins never leaks, when it whistles. And it cooks everything thoroughly. So, it does what it is supposed to do damn well. And that is all that is needed. The only thing about Hawkins that is a little bit of a problem is opening the lid and closing it. It can sometimes be frustratingly difficult to do that. But, this is just a minor trick that you need to get used to. So, everything considered, this is a great pressure cooker.

Cooking for two under pressure
All our birds and their own chicks have flown the nest so our big pots and pans are of little use to us. We were unaware that pressure cookers are available in small sizes until we watched an Indian recipe video. Locating a supplier in Canada met with no success but Amazon.com offered this product in a wide range of sizes and we selected the two litre cooker which turned out to be ideal. The 2 litre cooker allows ample servings for two persons and we use it for all sorts of cuisines and recipes, Indian, European, Chinese, and North American especially. Just a couple of drawbacks - for aging hands and eyes the method of fitting and sealing the lid requires some practice, and the handle-locking device gets very hot and can deliver a nasty burn if you forget to use a mitt. This is not the first Hawkins product that I have purchased but this one is fast. The one think that caught me by surprise was how the pressure works and the sound it makes during cooking. I was not accustomed to hearing that so it scared me at first because I thought it was going to blow the weight or gasket, instead of a constant whistle it made short burst of steam. Overall I am satisfied with this product.

Top of the line and WORTH IT!!!!!
Having owned one of these pressure cookers I can say from first hand experience they are top of the line. My family has used the same pressure cooker now on almost a daily basis for 5+ years. Yes that is an almost daily basis (usually it gets used 5-6 times or more a week). The cooker is still in GREAT shape. We have replaced the gasket once and that is it. The cooker is extremely well crafted with thick aluminum that reminds me of high end cookware like Calphalon, Analon etc. Honestly, you can't get much better than this. PERIOD! It heats well, cleans EASILY and exudes quality.

Love this pressure cooker
This is the ideal cooker and I've had a few different ones. When you cook chuck steak and some potatoes and onion you can't help but love it. Only downside and minor at that is the design makes for difficult pouring from the cooker, you lift contents out.

Detailed info about these was sparse online. The unit does come with an insert, not mentioned anywhere. Though recommended for gas stoves, it seems fine on my glass-top electric. Looks fine, too! 99-cent-a-pound beef ribs succulent in less than one hour. I will be ordering the 5-liter Contura ... only wish I could find a bigger one to match. The Hawkins website lists a 6.5-liter model, but I can't find one for sale anywhere online. This 3-liter is a bit smaller than expected, but I am glad I purchased it.

Hawkins 3L Anodised Contura
If you cook moong dal, you'll want at least the 3.5L size.I really like this little pressure cooker. I wanted a smaller pressure cooker than American stores generally carry, as it's just the two of us; but I also wanted to be able to cook enough to have a manageable amount of planned leftovers, so I went with the larger of two sizes which Hawkins recommends for 2 people. This fits the bill quite nicely. The anodised aluminium cleans very easily, and looks sharp; the lid lock mechanism is ingenious, and easy to master; and this size is much easier to store than my old pressure cooker was. I love that parts are cheap, and most problems can be fixed yourself. The longer I have it, the more I use it and appreciate it.

not so jazzed
I'm not as happy with this 5-liter Contura as I am with the 3-liter one that I reviewed earlier. In the larger size, I seem to find a general impression of reduced quality. The main problem is that the bottom of this 5-liter Contura is not flat enough to work well on my glass-top electric stove. The cooker "rocks and rolls" on my electric stovetop --only a small portion of the cooker bottom actually makes direct contact with the flat glass of the stovetop. Other parts of the cooker, such as the pressure regulator ... well they just don't seem to fit as nicely and tightly and cleanly as they do on my smaller Contura cooker.

I liked my new Hawkins Contura 5.0 Ltr
i ordered my new hawkins Contura 5.0 Ltr from Amazon , which arrived in 4-5 days . I already had 3.5 Ltr Hawkins futura since my bachelor days....but my wife found it bit small.....so e decided to buy Contura 5.0 Ltr. My initial reaction was that i find it bit lightweight compared to even futura 3.5 ltr . My wife quickly put it to test and we had nothing to complain about . Although i would have liked it with a bit heavier base , but other than that i loved it.

This cooker is designed in a way that lets you stir your food easily.Its broad faced so excellent for making quick potato medley (Aloo ki sabzi) or dal good for a family of four people. Easy to clean because of its design.I really like it. One thing though; as is for other pressure cookers; don't put it in the dishwasher it will lose its shine.

I am a European American vegetarian who does a lot of Indian cooking. I had heard about the "whistling pressure cookers" of India and was intrigued. I liked the idea that instead of watching a clock, keeping track of the progress of your recipe was a more informal system of counting whistles - a great thing for we tired, harried multitask-ers. I didn't want to spend a whole lot of money to find out if I liked them, so I tried this dear little Prestige 4 liter aluminum cooker at an economical Amazon reseller price. I love it! It makes even complex recipes very simple and fast, and for we vegetarians, the cooking of beans and pulses is now effortless and quick. Excellent product
Pressure cooker became a part of Indian kitchen long ago and ever since I moved to US on a temporary assignment, I was missing this product. I couldn't find many Indian stores sell pressure cookers, that too of Prestige at this cost. Though there are pressure cookers from Hawkins, I felt that the lid arrangements (which involved inserting the circular lid "inside" the base) on those cookers felt more cumbersome.Prestige lids are very easy to use; opening and closing them is as simple as opening/closing a bottle.Nothing less than a high-five for this product.

A cooker for every day use
It is a good pressure cooker. The only problem which I faced with it was that it is somewhat difficult to fit the lid of the cooker. However once you get to know how to do it, it is not that tough. Also in comparison with other brands, I found the cooker to be a bit small for 2 liters. Other than that it is a very good option for every day use. I am a student and I usually prepare vegetables and rice in it and it does the job pretty well and quickly. It is recommended to use the cooker on a low flame. The packaging of the cooker was also good and it arrived on time. I would recommend this to the people who are looking for a decent pressure cooker in a limited budget for every day usage.
