Read the instruction manual b4 u complain about it...
I received this humidifier 2 weeks ago after searching for a decent humidifier to replace the one i owned that was famous for robbing me in replacements filter, etc. fees. This thing fits the bill. The design is great, it's super quiet, and gets the job done. In choosing this product i read all the reviews. The reviews that made me hesitant to purchase this were the complaints that said: a)that the furniture on and around the humidifier got wet all the time, b)that the machine did not cut off if empty, as advertised, c)that the machine is hard to clean, and d) that it makes a lot of noise.With hesitation, I purchased the product in good faith.I was immediately pleased by the design. I read the owner's manual even though i thought it all was a "no brainer". The manual actually explained a)how to adjust the mist as to not wet the furniture around it, and b)that the machine will turn off when empty, but the light on the device will remain lite...obviously the...

I purchased the Crane cool mist humidifier in Dec'10 and have used it, with great success, for many months. With all the negative reviews (about 20%) I almost didn't purchase this machine. But I'm glad I did, because it works really well for what it is: a mid size/capacity humidifier.First of all: ***this humidifier has a 2.3 gallon per day maximum output, with a .9 gallon tank.*** Amazon's initial title for this (and many other humidifiers) mentions daily output capacity rather than tank size... this may be confusing, although the correct specs are prominently listed on the Amazon page - fifth bullet point in the "product features" section. As for Crane (the manufacturer), their package clearly states a 2.3 gallon daily output, and .9 gallon tank size... The reviewers complaining about the "misleading name" should try emailing Amazon suggesting a title change on their website... instead of writing a 1 or 2 star review of the product. Wonderful cool-mist humidifier!
This humidifier is the perfect size for a bedroom. The tank empties in about a day, so the water doesn't sit around too long to get mildew or mold. The humidifier puts out lots of moisture, and is absolutely whisper-quiet! We have the penguin-shaped one for our son's room, and this one for ours. Both are great.

Quiet and effective
I knew i needed a humidifier, as i'm just not used to the dry air of east coast winters. But after shopping around on amazon for warm mist humidifiers, i was horrified by the reviews. Every humidifier seemed to be loud, leaky, and a hassle. I ended up getting this one because of the relatively low price, thinking that if it was as bad as all the others, at least i wouldn't have spent too much on it.I have no complaints.On the low setting, it's about as loud as a pot of water boiling in the next room. On the high setting, it might compete with a pot of water boiling in the same room. Every once in a while it gets a bit talkative, but that's rare and doesn't last long. I'm a light sleeper, and this unit never wakes me up.On the low setting, a full tank of water lasts a little over 24 hours. On the high setting, it goes through in about 8 to 9 hours, perfect to run overnight.The auto-shutoff works just fine, so i don't even bother turning...

I love Amazon because of the reviews. For the most part, the reviews are honest, detailed and very helpful, especially when a true defect or some other "quirk" is described. However, many of the reviews for this item are really...bizarre! I have to wonder what some of these reviewers were actually thinking. Also, are they are realistic in their expectations? cold and warm humidifiers
I purchased the vicks cool mist humidifier (v3100) while visiting my family out west for the holidays. I had a sore throat and that mixed with the heater running and the already very dry air and i was getting up to get a drink 4 times a night. the first night i spent with the humidifier i didn't get up at all. i decided to leave it there and use it every time i visit, summer or fall. and i liked having a humidifier so much i bought a warm mist one, the v745a for my midwest apartment. here is a comparison of the two.i bought the cool mist for the desert because it was cheaper and will only be used a few weeks a year but will be both summer and winter. it does blow a lot of cool air and will be especially nice in the summer. some people found it quite loud but i thought it was reasonable and used it on the high setting. but i am also used to sleeping with a fan on during the summer. i liked the fact that its shape is lower to the ground making it difficult to tip...

LOVE this humidifier!!!
I've been using humdifiers for years and have tried every type. The cool mist ones mildew up quickly and the wicks are expensive. The ultrasonics are nice, but unless you use distilled water, you run the risk of breathing in bacteria from tap water, since the mist is cool and the water and any particulates that are in the water are nebulized into the air. The warm mist are the best, since the water is boiled and only the steam escapes. I have used many brands of warm mist humidifiers over the years... Holmes, Duracraft, and Honeywell. This Crane model is THE BEST yet. It hasn't leaked once. The tank size is adequate for a medium sized bedroom. I run mine on the low setting and it goes for 12 hours easily. The operation is quiet. The other brands I've tired all have the same basic design... the heating element is round with a hole in the middle and is difficult to scrub on all sides if there is a lot of hard water build up. Works Well, but messy cleanup and falls apart
I tried this for several days and it really does work well as far as boiling the water and throwing out steam. The design leaves a lot to be desired though. The tower comes apart from the base very easily and it is next to impossible to clean inside completely. The mineral buildup is really bad since there is nothing to collect it. I ended up going with the Vicks V790.

warm mist but not for 8 hours
We bought 2 warm mist humidifiers previously, a Sunbeam and a Holmes. They both were terribly noisy.We bought this from Home Depot, same price as Amazon. It is much more quiet. Good misting output. BUT, even though this web site says it is operational for 8 hours, on the product's box, it represents 7 hours AND, when in continual use, it lasts only about 5 1/2 hours. Not very practical.

Just opened it up two days ago...and have had it running for most of the day in the living room, just to try it out before baby comes. I've had a bit of a cold anyway...and it really does actually seem to help me! Cute humidifier that does the job
The Crane Owl humidifier is cute and functional. It's easy to fill, with minimal drippage when transferring the tank back to the base. The mist comes out the top of the owl's head, so it's good for areas where you want the mist to travel up. This might not work out well if the humidifer needs to be placed up high - dresser height works for us. It's easy to operate with one dial. The first night I turned it all the way up for maximum humidity, which turned our small bedroom into a balmy haven. But full blast was a little too much for our room, and some condensation was forming on the dresser. We solved that problem by experimenting with the setting, and found that we only need to set the level relatively low on the dial for optimal humidity and no condensation.The humidifier is ionic, and operates with no filter - a big plus for us.We run these in each of our children's bedrooms nightly to help alleviate congestion and allergies, and the cute owl gets the job...

Don't under estimate the humidifying power of this adorable owl!!
I ordered this because our house is super dry. I live in Los Angeles with my boyfriend. This seems to be a kid-oriented product (we don't have kids) but I love cute things, and this was the highest rated humidifier, so I figured I'd give it a try.I also ordered the Crane De-Mineralising Filter, which works great as well. Unlike many filters, this actually replaces the cap of the water tank. You don't need to use it, but it's recommended if you have hard water (which we do). I think this is SO awesome. Not only do I have the option of using the humidifier without a filter, but if I do use one - the water gets filtered before it is vaporized.The humidifier, even when on a low setting, emits two, beautiful streams of water vapor. You can literally put your face over the humidifier and feel water beading on your nose. I've never had a humidifier that was as effective as this. Like another reviewer said, the highest setting is TOO much for a small room...

Pros:1. It actually turns on. I got this unit after my Crane Adorable Humidifier (Penguin shape) refused to turn on.2. It just works. I have a 10x13 room and this humidifier took my room's humidity from 21% to 42% in about 3 hours.3. I really like the form factor. The unit is only 5.31 inches deep so it can easily fit on top of a short bookcase that also has a small depth. Few other humidifiers would fit where I have this humidifier right now.4. It is fairly easy to fill. The top of the tank is flat so that when you turn the tank upsidedown to fill it, it can lie flat.5. I'm pretty happy with the mist quality. Even on the highest setting, you're not going to see fat droplet sizes coming out. Breathing better.
I got this for my son and it is the best humidifier yet.I've tried a bunch of inexpensive ultrasonic, evaporation, and heating element based units but this one is the first that actually went ALL night.It has a output volume knob that actually works: High is as thick as pea-soup fog and low is merely mouth breathing.There is a built-in filter on the water supply so that may extend the life a bit but I don't know yet.The light's aren't the super annoying injection laser diodes that I've seen on other models.The vapor direction nozzle is nice because you can point the power and water alarm lights away from your bed.

Best one I have used
I really like this humidifier. Last year I tried to use the "Honeywell HCM-6009 QuietCare 9-Gallon Console Humidifier with Air Washing Technology" and was disgusted by the poor quality of it. The thing started to smell like mildew after one week, so I cleaned the filter and it was okay for only one day. We returned it.The sunpentown humidifier has an ion exchange filter, so it doesn't smell at all. Plus, it is SILENT!! Even on high, you cannot hear it AT ALL.We use it in a large living room (twice the size of the recommended area) and it works just fine. Also, you can actually see the mist coming out. In the words of a previous reviewer, it really is like pea soup.We use it on medium and the water tank lasts for about 12-14 hours. If you use it in a smaller room, the low setting would work just fine, so it would last much longer.The reason I only gave it four stars is because when the setting is on high, the water vapor coming out of the humidifier is so thick...

GREAT UNIT, Don't know what all the Negative stuff is about.
Is it PERFECT? of course not, but is IS Darned Good. I gave a 4 ONLY because there were some minor things that could have made it better (Most of which you find on the more expensive units) which seems fair enough, you want more "Gizmo's" you pay for them. really I should change it to a 5. Form and function pros and cons
I really debated about giving this item three or four start. I decided on four because bottom line it does a good job getting moisture in the air and some design items work well. For instance, it is on wheels so it is easy to move and the water fill containers are manageable. They had the forsight to make two instead of one and the handles are comfortable.Now for some negatives. At the highest setting, it is still pretty loud. I live in a condo so, if I'm watching TV I usually keep it on the second highest setting or wear headphones and keep it at the highest setting. Here is another noise issue- when it starts getting empty, a loud humm starts up. Another thing I don't like is that you can't control or see what the humidity level is- it just kicks out. I think this feature is available on a higher model but it seems like it should be available on this one for the price they are asking.Probably the biggest issue I have with this unit is that it has a side...

It works
First I went cheap and bought a small evaporative unit. The large filter was "permanent", but required occasional decaling and the small pump filter kept getting gummed up. I then purchased a warm mist unit, it worked at first and when required continuous use to barely maintain the proper humidity level. After got my electric bill, I stopped using it. Finally I purchased this unit. Works perfectly, keeps the house at the level I want (45%) and only automatically turn on when needed. The dual water tanks are also nice. I suggest you get a unit rated to at least double your home's square footage.
