Crystal Clear, Very Loud
Finally received the right cable for this unit so I could try it out on my Sony 7506's and I was very impressed. The sound is great and very loud (if you crank it up past halfway you will go deaf). The construction is very sturdy: there is virtually no plastic on this unit (it's all metal) so I have no doubt this unit will last 10+ years. My only complaint is that there is no on\off button so you have to unplug it to turn it off. Other than that this unit is perfect. great for it's intended use, good sound and very good value for money
This amp has tons of power, actually too much for most headphones, I think it was designed with the old 600ohm AKG 240 DF in mind.With lower impedance phones it first seemed out of control. I had a 75ohm etymotic er4P to S adapter (basically 2 75ohm resistors, one on each channel) which made a huge difference.I tried it with Sennheiser HD580 and it sounded pretty good (with the adapter). It is very clean amp, no distortion or coloration to the sound. Very neutral and no noise. And you got 4 in one package.I compared it to other portable "audiophile" amps: pimeta and Meyer Move. It stacked up to them pretty well. It was not better than them but not too far behind either.For studio applications where musicians need to listen to themselves play, or have a few people monitor a recording it is fantastic amp, it sounds great and it is not expensive.For critical home listening, there are dedicated home amps that are better but they are more expensive and...

Best $100 I Ever Spent
This tube preamp is amazing. What really makes it shine is the option to send as much or as little input audio through the tube. The effect is the right amount of microphone warmth for each job. The output gain has a really wide range, which means that I can drive the tube hard and still get pleasant audio out of the unit. One more thing - the TUBEPre is quiet, much quieter than anything else in this price class.

  Neat preamp, change the tube
  This is a great starter preamp.When i first started recording i was using an akg perception 200 and tascam 122L. the 122 is a decent interface but is almost too transparent for its own good. All of my vocal recordings sounded lifeless and detached.I purchased this inexpensive preamp and found that it certainly did add the subtle harmonics needed to liven up the tone.I read online that many people thought that while this preamp is decent for the price, merely switching out the stock chinese vacuum tube can really enhance its tone. So I went to G***** C***** and purchased a replacement russian made groove tubes preamp tube and WOW, It really did make a huge difference!(the entire tube switching process took me about 4 minutes, i had never done such a thing before but it was very easy)So while this is a nice little preamp, a simple $20 upgrade took the quality way above and beyond what you get out of the box.

  Good budget preamp but OMG, replace the tube!!

Versatile and powerful
After evaluating Pro Tools, Ableton, Reaper, Studio One, and Cubase for a month, I settled on Cubase. I had used Pro Tools M-Powered in the past, and Cubase took a lot of relearning to figure out where all the functionality was. But it is there. In fact, it supports pretty complex workflows. VST plugins are plentiful, and performance is great (on a laptop, no less). I usually have @20 tracks each with 1-3 inserts, and 2-3 FX tracks as well; haven't had any processing problems. My only complaints, so far, is that the user interaction scheme is a little non-standard; for example, right-clicking usually does not show a context menu as you would expect. But the manual is written very very well, and makes learning the system much easier. I am now converted to Cubase.
