REAL Maple Syrup
I thought maple syrup was maple syrup but, apparently things have changed over the last several years. I noticed a while back that the maple syrup I purchased in the store (even organic) had an "odd" taste. It just didn't taste right. I tried several types but, with the same result.Then I read a review on here about Vermont having tougher standards for maple syrup. As in something about not allowing other sweeteners or something, don't remember exactly.Anyway, I decided try Brown Family Pure Vermont Maple Syrup. Wow, major taste difference, even the after taste lingers and is very nice. I also bake bread with maple syrup, the smell of the baking bread, and the bread flavor are much more distinct maple.

Actual label states "Vermont Grade A Medium Amber" maple syrup. Amazon product description does not state the grade. Generally, Grade A has a lighter maple taste than the stronger flavored Grade B.

Grade B Organic
There are generally 3 grades of maple syrup. Grade A is the first run - Mild in taste, sweet and with fewer minerals than the other grades. It is more expensive and less desirable (health and taste wise). Grade B is the second run with more minerals plus more maple taste. Grade C is the third run with even more minerals and an even stronger taste of maple and it's slightly less pleasant for most people.Maple syrup has a large variety of minerals and vitamins and Grade B Organic is my favorite, considering it's stronger flavor and higher nutrition content. Good Value, Moderate Taste
Having grown up in sugar maple country and bought syrup from the farmers in unmarked gallon cans ('store syrup' never entered our house), I have plenty of experience with maple syrup. [Tip: maple trees and maple syrup are 'organic' by definition. Farmers who tap trees add nothing. Don't pay more for 'organic'.] At our house we 'sugared off' every Winter. For those who know what I'm talking about, read on. For those who don't have any idea, you may be happy with this product.The Good: This syrup is priced right (purchased at $17.31). It is a good buy and you should not be shy at purchasing. It's really about a 3 star minus or 2.5 stars.The Not So Good: Grade B syrup is normally 'mapley' with caramel notes. This syrup LACKS the strong maple flavors that make it suitable for cooking or a good match for those who like strong flavors, but it does NOT have the complexity or finesse of a Grade A Amber. REAL Vermont Maple Syrup - tasty dark amber style!
Tho the picture shows "pure maple syrup" on the bottle, the jugs that you get DO say "Vermont Maple Syrup." This Butternut Mountain Farm Pure Maple Syrup is made in Vermont, USA, and is the finest quality! It is Grade A dark amber, which is tastier and has a deeper maple flavor than the lighter Grade A's, but it is NOT strong like the Grade B is. In fact, its JUST RIGHT, whether you use it on hot cereal, hot cakes, waffles, ice cream, or whatever. This is a pint jug and it goes pretty fast around our house, so you might want to buy a couple! Worth the indulgence
Coming from New England and living in AZ now, I missed pancakes, waffles, ice cream, etc with REAL maple syrup. I read up on the color qualities and the dark amber makes it a more concentrated flavor so you use less.Be careful-hole in cap is larger than expected and you could end up drowning your food (and yourself) in maple syrup. Not my favorite.
Perhaps my taste buds have aged, but this is not the maple syrup I fondly remember enjoying in New England in the 1940s. I thought this was a little too thin, and somewhat lacking in a nice maple flavor. I'll seek out an alternative for the next time. Top to learn more

Excellent Syrup
I've been buying this syrup through mail order from the ABCStores (located in Hawaii) since my trip to the islands in 2004. It doesn't have a high sugar content like some other coconut syrups. We've lived in Pennsylvania, Maryland and now Connecticut and I've had it delivered to all three states from Hawaii. I'm hoping they'll get more of this on Amazon and the shipping won't be so extreme as it is being sent from Hawaii (but you can see, how I obviously feel it's worth the extra shipping just to have a taste of it on my homemade recipe of macadamia/coconut waffles - a specialty of mine that brings me back to my wonderful vacation in Paradise. Absolutely Divine! But.....
This syrup is divine. There just aren't words enough for me to describe the taste. Takes me to island in an instant. I made pancakes and topped them with some cut up bananas and this syrup and went back for seconds, and considered thirds. All that said, it is a very small bottle for the price, which I think is quite steep. I was able to make homemade that tasted exactly like this, for a third of the cost and the recipe made just as much, probably more. I am not saying this to discourage anyone from buying this, because it is an excellent product. If you are the least bit savvy in the kitchen you can make your own in a jiffy and save yourself the green. BUT, if you are not, then I would whole-heartedly say buy this syrup and make a double batch of pancakes because you are going to want to go back again and again. (You also might consider buying two bottles since you will empty this one right away!) Top to learn more

We picked up some macadamia nut pancakes while we were in Hawaii but didn't think to get syrup too. Once we got home we realized our mistake and lucked out when we found this syrup online. It has a great taste to it and it is the perfect compliment to the pancakes. If you are looking for a touch of Hawaii for breakfast then you should give these a try. I never thought you could have too much of a good thing, until I was dared to chug 3 bottles of Aunt Jemima's Original Maple Syrup. I took that bet before I knew you... before I knew myself.
