If you like cars ...
I grew up with CARtoons magazine and read The Kandy-Kolored Tangerine-Flake Streamline Baby at way to early an age, so I was delighted to get this book. I am afraid that with age has come a certain distance from the culture; however, this is a great read.This is a profusely illustrated collection of rat rods. As I understand it, rat rods are mostly build with materials at hand and are usually not high dollar projects. In general the vehicles illustrated in this book meet those criteria. There are a number of exceptions but that is not a bad thing.We have 160 pages, with a ton of pictures. The scope ranges from the Midwest USA to Argentina and the former Soviet Union. You just cannot beat a rod put together in the Ukraine from a 1967 Zil. Now how cool is that.There is also some truly big time blown monsters in here to wow you out of your socks. Try a 1928 Ford Tudor with an 820ci Jon Kaase built Ford Hemi turning 1930hp and 8.08 seconds at 177...

Fast, not pretty
Rat Rods are the equal and opposite reaction to overly pretty hot rods. They may be unpainted, primered, or actually rusted out. The emphasis is on performance, not show car pretty. Ugliness is a badge of honor. I'm not sure if I find this bizarre or inspirational, but it is an interesting scene. This is a photo book, not a how-to. Dozens of rods are illustrated, and the photography is great. (All photos are in color, of course). My favorite rod here is a Zil truck in Ukraine - what's been done to that Workhorse of the People surely would have been considered Deviant Behavior and Hooliganism during the Soviet Empire.

How To Build a Cheap Hot Rod.Just recieved my copy, and indeed it is a cheap build. By today's standards, even the cost of raw materials "ain't cheap". It is an excellent basis for building a "copy" rod or even modifying a "real" antique. Today, modifying an antique is short of blaspahmy, but to each his own. Hot rodding is not only modifying, but also includes building. This book give an excellent insight on the subject of building and assembling for both old and new.

Cheap Hot Rod
I bought the book to learn in detail how to build the Speedway Motors 27 T kit. I was disappointed that half the narrative is generic. There is a lot of discussion of how to select the right car for your build etc. Much of the detail I was anticipating was glossed over. And the worst part, the book ended with the car still under construction. Like so many hot rod projects, it is incomplete.

A MUST HAVE FOR ANY VINTAGE CAR FAN , METAL FABRICATOR , OR anyone thinking of building a RAT or TRADITIONAL Hot Rod.
I couldn't agree with the previous writer NICKY more . This is a fantastic DVD on "layin' it down" when it comes to "rats" or "hot rod" insight of what you're looking at as far as labor intensive time and thought.It's work to build from groundup like they used to do in the heyday of rodding (40's 50s &60's ), but it's FUN WORK !! CREATIVE!!The dvd also has info.on PIN STRIPPING,"SCRATCH"who can really lay it down beautifully. Ian Rouchell "the rat rodmam"considershimselfmore of a metal artist and sculpter , than a machanic kustom car builder . THISguy is an artist alright , and an absolutely unbelivable kustom rod builder. it blows my mind how a guy can just casually go out into the STREETS , ALLEYS , or local junk yards , and find find what most folks would consider crud , and make a MASTERPIECE out of it. This is a must have for ANY VINTAGE car fan once again!! and for the price , COME ON ! Dig out thefew bucks and check it out. I don't know these guys and this is NO pitch...

GET THIS!!!
I can't believe that no one else has reviewed this dvd. take advantage of the low price and BUY THIS NOW! i'm no expert on the HOT ROD scene, but this was very enjoyable. The footage of pinstripe artist SKRATCH is worth the price alone. I would say anyone who is into watching creative people do something artistic and original will really love this. you get to see the creative process of some great project cars, as well as getting into the motivation of some of the builders and car club members. I will definitely be watching this one a few times.

Art meets Rat Fink
Got this at Walmart for $5. (sorry, Amazon) Was expecting it to be a passably decent thrown togeather thing at best. Turns out this is a well made professional deal. Got great original music. Introduces us to people dedicated to their art. Intimate examination of the creative process. Some of these guys are true artists, with vehicles as their mode of expression. Highly recommended.

Sebasstian.First one I watched was "Rat Rod Rockers!"The best I can describe this, is similar to a Porn movie where you have the sweet eye candy tied together by humorous low budget, unknown actors following an amateur written script. The eye candy in this case was hotrods. Car chases, gunfights, burnouts, and of course some good ol' rock'n' roll soundtrack. You dont need a hollywood storyline when you have all that.The sooner you get over the fact that this isn't a high dollar hollyweird production, the better. I actually really enjoyed it. Me and the wife watched it last night, and there were very few times that we were not laughing. I am unsure if this was supposed to be a comedy, but everyone takes something different from a movie.Awesome for an afternoon of trashy movies and a few...

Awesome Guide
I am using this book to teach me terms and skills that I otherwise wouldn't know. I do have experience working on cars. This is my first year working on a hot rods at a shop. I am part of a group of guys working to build hot rods for a future club(hopefully soon). Now that I am building my own I needed to be well versed before I start to build. This is great for someone with some knowledge about cars.
