Customer Review
This purchase was a good experience.
I had a newer motherboard with only one IDE header and had 3 IDE devices on my computer. I purchased this item, turned the computer off, opened the case and installed the adapter and connected the third device (a ZIP drive). I restarted the computer and windows recognized the device and installed the driver. That was all there was to it. I tested to make sure that the drive was working properly and closed up the case and all has been well since. Shipping time and price for this component were both excellent! Was a bit confusing that the adapter was shown as "(2 sata/2 pata)". While it can power two pata (IDE) devices through a duplex ribbon, the write-up made one think that it had two pata (IDE) headers. Photographs were not of a high enough resolution for the buyer to be certain of this issue and the product description did not make it clear. Other than this one issue that did not affect me, the whole experience was excellent.

Does exactly what I need it to do to add a spare drive
All I needed was something that would allow me to add an extra 160GB IDE HDD to my Windows 7 system for program files installs. After I installed and fired up the machine, detection was transparent. I had to pop open the Computer window to check. There it was, ready for use. Painless. As far as SATA and RAID functionality, it will be years before I need the SATA connections and I'll probably never configure a RAID. So, if just need to add your trusty old IDE drive(s) with your Windows 7 box, this is the guy.***UPDATE***No problems working with the PATA drive attached, but when I added two SATA DVD drives, I would get the blue screen after every other startup/restart and puke out a vsmraid.sys error. Restarting in safe mode before going into a normal restart gets you back in, but I guess it doesn't like having both types of devices (SATA/PATA) connected at the same time. No biggie. I moved the SATA cables to the available spots in the system board and all is...

Second SATA connection for RAID only
I had bought this to add two SATA hard drives to my computer, under the impression that this would support both. But it turns out that while you can connect two SATA drives to this card, the second drive will ONLY work decently as a RAID drive. If you use them as two independent, non-RAID hard drives, the second drive will be very, VERY slow, around 5mb/s versus the first drive's tested 97mb/s. So if you've purchased this to add two SATA drives to your system and are experiencing a very slow hard drive, this is likely why. This only supports one SATA drive at full speed, and the second is essentially RAID-only.Two stars have been removed for there being no clarity on this provided anywhere by the manufacturer. An hour of internet sleuthing and finally testing and purchasing a different add-on card confirmed my suspicions. Otherwise, if you do need a RAID card, this works very well. Easy installation, the drivers are easily accessible on the internet, and the one SATA drive...
