Seems Like The Right Filter For The Job!
I was in need of "a" new filter for our Sears/Kenmore vacuum. After some web searching, I found that this filter (Sears 86889) could cost between $4.25-$19.99 per filter. After reading some reviews and looking at the filters, I chose to go with the least expensive ones from Kill Dirt for $4.25 each (I bought 10 filters). When they arrived, the filters looked like the originals that came with the vacuum. The price was right - they fit like thay had eyes - and they came to my door in 4 (four) working days! If these don't work out (I can't see why they won't) I'll write another review. But as of today - save your money and go with these! Amazon.com has always been a good place to buy the right things for the right application.Update: December 28,2011I'm still using these filters. I change them when they need changed. They're are working out great. They fit and they filter the exhaust air very well. Will buy these again when I run out.

With this kit and a little time, you can repair your garage door opener.
I was faced with the decision to purchase a new garage door opener for about $230 or repair the existing opener from 1992 which lacks some of today's safety features. Since I don't use this garage door often and I don't have children, I opted to save some cash and do the repair myself. I have no previous experience of doing these types of garage door opener repairs, but as a do-it-yourselfer I figured it was worth the attempt.The kit came with detailed instructions which broke the process down into 5 main steps each with multiple individual tasks. The instructions were not exact for my opener, but were close enough to get the point. The steps start with removing the motor with the worm, removing the chain stem with the gear, replacing the worm, replacing the gear, and finally reassembling everything. Once the first two steps were completed I brought the parts inside to work on. I had the most trouble removing the tightly set pin to replace the gear. About two hours...

Not for the faint of heart....
This was a lot of work, more than I had anticipated, despite the excellent reviews here, warning of the many nuts, plugs, and pins involved.The directions were so-so. I found that they were written very generically with the intent to apply to variations of the models. The diagrams could have been more clear...for example, I had trouble figuring out where the retainer clip and limit drive gear (2A) was. It's the white thing on the end of the sprocket assembly shaft. My advice is to take your time and move very slowly through the instructions, step by step. There were a few things that delayed me:* The sprocket assembly had to be lifted up through the hole in the chassis, and I only had 2 inches of clearance between the top of the opener and the ceiling of the garage. This meant that the opener had to come down a few inches. I suspended it with rope and bungees since taking it down completely would have meant un-bolting it from the chain axel, and I didn't...

A replacement part - with instructions!
I saved myself ~$75 in labor charges doing this myself. It's a COMMON issue with Craftsman garage door openers - The main gear set strips out. Mine seemed to have lasted a good 8 years, so I really can't complain. The cost of the gear kit was a lot better than a complete new garage door opener.My only recommendation with DIY on this, is REMEMBER TO PLUG BACK IN ALL SENSORS!! OOps!

Repairs the Door
The hardest part of the repair is removing the pins holding the gear in place. I drilled a hole in two pieces of 2x4 the diameter of the shaft and a shallower hole the diameter of the part of the gear the pin is in, cut the 2x4s through the center of the hole, drilled a small hole perpendicular to the gear support to pound the pin out, rested both sides of the gear on the 2x4 pieces and held the pieces together with C-clamps. The other part I wasn't sure of was loosening the belt. Measure the expanded length of the spring before you loosen the nut with a 7/16" open end wrench, loosen it enough to get the belt off, then tighten it at the end back to the length it was before. The other parts of the repair you can find directions for on the internet. It took me less than 3 hours but would take less than 1 hour if I was doing it again.

ATTENTION: PLEASE READ REGARDING SEARS, WHIRLPOOL, & PUR
It seems there are a LOT of misuderstandings in these reviews. If you own a Sears refridgerator it IS a Whirlpool, or Kitchen Aid, or whatever else with a "Kenmore" name plate on it. Sears doesn't make their appliances and they purchase appliance from varios companys and put their "Kenmore" brand on it. I have a Whirlpool fridge, Whirlpool dishwaher, and GE microwave. They all say Kenmore and the stainless stell matches perfectly. A Sears sales rep will tell you who makes the specific unit. This is true for Kenmore washers & dryers as well, all appliance. Secondly, Whirlpool, Kitchen Aid, Kenmore, etc. do not make the filters. Sears, Whirlpool, etc. sell the filter with their markings on it. PUR make the filter. This is not a cheaper replacement for the filter, it is the same filter. Not the Same as the #4396710
If you go to PUR's website, you'll find that this filter handles only 4 problem areas: (chlorine, sediment, lead, o-dichlorobenzene).The more expensive #4396710 Kitchenaid/Whirlpool deals with 11 problem areas (the side of the box lists all these in detail: (chlorine, particulates, lead, mercury, benzene, o-dichlorobenzene, toxaphene, asbestos, cysts, turbidity, atrazine).The strange thing is that the PUR website only seems to show the cheaper filter and its attendant 4 areas of filtering. It may just be my ineptness, but I couldn't find the other better filter on their website.My wife, wanting the best water, always opts for the more expensive filter. It's around $60 in local area markets. I just ordered one from Amazon a couple of weeks ago for $35 delivered; other internet dealers carry it for around the same price.

Used this in a Kenmore fridge. worked fine
First time changing filter. Not sure if all do this, but when i changed, we had extremely high pressure. Im guessing it was acting like there wasnt a filter in at all. Caused water to keep flowing a bit (without pressing).After that strangeness, took about 6 pitchers to get airbubbles out of filter, etc.Kenmore and Whirlpool are the samer thing more or less. Works fine now its been in use.Definately cheaper than getting the kenmore one
