Great little plants
We love these little air plants, but had trouble finding them in NYC. Hinterland Trading's plants arrived quickly and in excellent condition. The 'instruction' card was creative and really cute.

Very cute and arrived healthy
I was so happy to receive this adorable little guy. He came with instructions for care and I ordered the little glass bulb planter to go with him. They are happily residing in my kitchen and he is green and healthy. Love it! One note: care instructions say to use rainwater, so if you order this, be sure to go ahead and put out a container for rainwater in case it doesn't rain again for several days.

Great little plant
This adorable little plant came quickly and in great condition! It's a little smaller than expected but that's ok. I placed the plant on top of a piece of driftwood next to our kitchen window. The instructions that came with the plant were very fun and creative. I will definitely be ordering more!

Building Your Own Terrarium

It's a lot easier than you may think!

First, make sure that you have all the required materials for building your terrarium. The most important of these, of course, is the terrarium itself. Virtually any type of clear plastic or glass container will work just fine. Bottles, fish bowls, jars, you name it. There are even special containers built just for terrariums. Your choices are endless; just make sure that you choose a clear container that's been cleaned with hot soapy water, as tinted or cloudy glass or plastic will interfere with plant growth by reducing light. Product Description

Tiny deep green leaves are deeply lobed. Not only is the individual leaf considerably smaller than the normal Creeping Fig, but each dimpled leaf is deeply lobed as if was a tiny oak leaf. More clumping than vining in habit, this is the choice for the sophisticated terrarium or living topiary. It is considered crown jewel of the "Creeping Fig" cultivars. Very easy to grow. Provide very bright indirect light and keep evenly moist. It is an excellent hanging plant, terrarium plant, topiary plant or just a house plant!

Very cute
Great little plant but is slow to grow and hard to root cuttings. If you want to see lots and lots of leaves, order more than one. After about a year, I put some cuttings in a glass jar terrarium totally covered in a partly sunny window. The thing took off and grew each stem to about a foot long. It seems to like the moist, covered atmosphere. I also put a piece into a mound of soil in a saucer and covered the entire think with a large clear pot. Again, it is doing extremely well. I add a little miracle grow every few months.

Alright
I was pretty disappointed in the size of the plant I received. It was smaller than the two in the pictures, but it still arrived intact and safe, to my surprise.I don't need too big of a plant for my desk and I do enjoy the little thing and adding just enough water.I'm just hoping that it does alright for now in what it came in. I only placed it in a small bowl until I go to the store.I hope it does well.

Looks good!
These look good and the suction cups are working great (although I did use some spit right off the bat cause thats classic) ...but I wonder if the plastic variety would be better in my high-humidity terrarium ...the silk does look good though. I actually took one person's advice and went to the Michael's craft store and got loads of awesome plastic plants etc. for way less.

Great for Terrariums
I was browsing Amazon for some items for my terrarium and this popped up. When they say large, they mean large. This thing easily fills up a whole side of the terrarium wall. My frilled dragons love playing in it. Highly recommended.

Not just for terrariums - nice for Aquariums
I tried to find Abuliton genus information but all I kept finding were references to cannabis bushes - the leaves on this abuliton are similar to the cannabis plant - there's no denying it - but since they are fake and silk, there's no danger. I first found one bag in my local fish store in the reptile section and figured I'd give it a shot for my tropical freshwater aquarium as a background plant but first I emailed Hagen company to hear it from them that it was safe for use in water with fish and they confirmed that it was. So I soaked them in a bucket of water conditioned with Prime and added them to my tank. I love it! I bought 4 more and they are very natural looking and hide all my equipment and tubing and provide hiding places for my fish. I highly recommend these. Exo-Terra by Hagen also come in Ficus, Ruscus, Mandarin and Amapallo.************************update April 2010: These have been great for our Aquarium, and over time with some algae to them,...

LOVE IT!!!
I used to have tropical air plants many years ago, thought I would get one again. This is just a really nice display. Comes with plenty of rocks, a little sprig of moss, and a very nice and healthy bromeliad. These are so easy to care for (a little dip in some rain water once a week, some indirect sun, and you are good to go). I am going to order one now for my mother in law. Very happy!!!

Very pleased with this product
This is a great product. The delivery and shipping were fast and easy without any problems. I felt as if this product was a steal for the price. All contents delivered safely packaged and healthy. I was skeptical at first due to the shipping of live plants. However, I was pleasantly surprised. Product was delivered with care instructions. I have had this for about a month and it is still as healthy as when I got it. Looks great and is easy to take care of. Overall, great buy for the price and quality.

BUY Air Plant Tillandsia Bromeliads Kit with Pebbles and Moss Great Little Houseplant By Hinterland Trading

Buy Terrarium Plants

Of course you need to have a larger healthy parent plant to take cuttings from but you can also buy small terrarium plants and allow them to grow until they’re big enough to take cuttings from. Normally when I buy a larger plant I will just use it to take cuttings from but sometimes I will just divide up the plant and use it in multiple terrariums.   Another point to mention is that if you have a plant growing in a terrarium now and you prune it just take the parts that you cut and put them in water or plant them in moist soil and you will have new plants.     Buy them from a store smaller plants that are perfect for terrariums however you will end up paying $3 per plant on the cheap end.   As you can see there are many advantages to having larger plants from which to take cuttings or divide up.    These methods give you the cheapest and most sustainable way of obtaining terrarium plants.   Most plants will put out new roots where you cut them and voila you will have a new plant (a clone really) with all of the characteristics of the parent plant.   Then once I can tell that the plant is healthy and isn’t going to infect my other plants I will use it in a terrarium.   This is how I obtained all of my plants when I first started and I still do buy some plants from stores (See list below). Growing from seed: A cutting or clipping is when you cut off a growing part of the plant, generally 2-4 inches and then either place it in water or plant it in soil. ”  So I decided to put together a guide on how to obtain terrarium plants as well as moss, stones, glass, and pretty much everything that I use for my terrariums.   I have found it best to keep any plants that I have collected outside separate from my other plants so as not to introduce any bugs or diseases to the rest of them.

Apparently, the type of succulent I have was supposed to be planted with just a little bit of soil - its roots like to be more tightly packed in, rather than loosely planted as it was in the terrarium. So when you're thinking about making a terrarium, don't just think about what sort of pot or globe you want, also think about the plant you'll be getting and do you research. I'm horrible with plants so I never buy them, but I was given a beautiful terrarium for Christmas. Whereas planting houseplants can seem daunting and messy, a terrarium is more like decorating. Once planted, the terrarium is mostly carefree. First of all, if the glass isn't sealed (or mostly sealed, anyhow), it isn't much of a terrarium. You want enough moisture so the poor things don't dry out, but not so much that the air inside the terrarium gets humid and they rot. Carepac - if you're getting white mold, you are probably overwatering your plants. Last year, I found myself frustrated with what was out there for terrarium and planter supplies and I kind of got tired of just seeing "kits" on the market. Rather than buy all the materials for just one potting job, I decided to take it to a local nursery and have them do it for me (also since it was overgrown I knew it'd be difficult to remove safely and replant). Beyond that, cacti and succulents can survive in a terrarium if it's kept pretty dry. Most of the tiny succulents you buy for tray gardens and such really don't last very long indoors.
