A Great Translation of a Timeless Collection of Inspired Texts
It is difficult to relate how much I appreciate this well-done translation. Like the NIV, the TNIV does not aim for a literal, word for word translation from the Hebrew, Aramaic or Greek ancient texts, but rather tries to get at the heart of the meaning behind those words. Good translations that shoot for a more literal, word-for-word approach include the NASB (New American Standard Bible), and a very good compromise between the NASB and the TNIV is the NRSV (New Revised Standard Version). All three are quite excellent and trustworthy, but they take slightly different approaches in communicating these ancient texts to contemporary English readers.That being said, the TNIV takes all of the scholarship and hard work that went into the regular NIV, and made it even more accurate in communicating the original texts' meaning. I purchased this for use on my Kindle. It does have a "Try Me" feature you can do before purchasing, so I would advise you do that before you purchase this Bible.It has the option of looking at the books in Alphabetical or in Old Testament/New Testament order. It is pretty easy to navigate to the book, chapter, and verse. However, I did set a bookmark where the New Testament begins, for ease of getting to that point in the Bible quickly.I love Kindle's "Lookup" feature, in relation to the Bible. You can look up any word in a line of type, and find the meaning quickly. I've been pleasantly surprised at how many biblical words/names are in the Kindle dictionary! This feature has enhanced my Bible study dramatically! The "Search" feature in relation to the Bible is also very helpful. This is a review of the physical characteristics of this product. While I'm reflecting their value in my choice of five stars, I won't go in to detail concerning the study notes and tools, as better reviews can be found elsewhere (for example, see reviews for the non-personal-size ). And while I'm a big fan of the TNIV translation, it had nothing to do with my five star rating, as I simply wanted that to reflect the quality of this book itself.I was a bit confused when I read that the book came with a jacket. Was the design shown on the Amazon page how the jacket would look with the book beneath featuring a plainer look? I now know that the Bible looks exactly as the Amazon product picture looks, while the removable dust jacket is the same but with promotional information printed all over it...

Great translation and study bible
I have recently read up on the "TNIV debate" and have decided that the TNIV is a perfecty good translation that has been sadly maligned. It is even better than the NIV in terms of readability. This study bible is essentially the NIV study bible adapted for the TNIV. It has excellent notes, maps and references. The layout is attractive although the print is a bit small. The paper is somewhat thin but the hardcover binding seems pretty solid. I recommend both the translation and the study notes.

Great for reading, the best NIV I've found for the Kindle
The NIV is my favorite version of the Bible. I am not rating the content of the Bible, but the ebook format. I bought this for my Kindle in the hope of quickly navigating to the scriptures in church or Bible study. For this purpose, it is not very good. I have to go back to the Table of Contents each time, trudge down the list of books of the Bible to find the book I'm looking for and then chapter and verse. If I had my regular print Bible with me I'd be at the verse much faster.If your goal in getting the NIV is for actually reading through it, instead of quickly locating a verse, I would highly recommend this version. It is great for reading, just not great for quick reference. I do wish they would come out with an NIV Bible that showed Book and Chapter at the top or side of each page...

NIV Bible for the Kindle
The NIV Bible for the Kindle is good reading of course but searching for a particular verse is hard to do. It will lead you to the Old and New Testament ok and to the particular Chapter but not the verses - say if you want to go to Genesis 1:15 it will bring you to Genesis 1 but then you have to go page by page to get to 15 - ugh! Other than that, it's great reading! The TNIV Bible for the Kindle is much better for finding your Chapters and Verses - You can get to exactly what you want by the menus.

Great Bible, Bad Stereotype
First off, let me just say that I AM NOT a Bible scholar; I have not gone to seminary and I do not read super-deep theological books dissecting minute portions of Scripture. I am just your average, Bible-reading & believing follower of Jesus. I grew up reading the New King James version, and then around seventh grade switched over to the New American Standard version, and within the last couple years have been looking at other varying translations of the Bible. The latest that I've picked up has been Today's New International Version, which I believe has gotten one of the worst reputations of all time as a Bible - a reputation that is unfounded.The main problem everyone who denounces the TNIV seems to have is gender related. What has been said is that the TNIV skews the original Greek and Hebrew and changes things around so that the TNIV is now "politically correct." The TNIV Squared is a creative and flexible idea
The TNIV is an excellent version that has finally filled the gap for the need of a gender-neutral bible. This bible is perfect for those who take notes but do not need a full page of wide margin space to do it. The TNIV advertises the new squared bible as "convenient" and it is. It might seem bulky at first, but the shape fits neatly into a backpack or purse without adding too much weight. I am a graduate student at a seminary and it allows me to add any notes from class or my reading into the margins. I highly recommend.

Yet Another, Highly Accurate & Fluid Translation by the CBT!
1st. Praise the Lord Jesus for this square format! WOW is it awesome! I must really admit using the square format for study is really nice. Another thing I really like about this format is the open borders and margins for writing in notes, and accurate Bible references! Many study Bibles look overly complicated and often have very inaccurate Scripture references. The TNIV translation will be controversial because of its use of gender-neutral language. However, it is much more sensible than the NRSV in its usage. In all the places where I had suspected that the NRSV had gone overboard, the TNIV retains the masculine gender.The TNIV shows much less denominational bias than the NIV. Print appears to be lighter
I was delighted to receive my TNIV Church Bible, and am looking forward to reading the Old Testament with added clarity.When the TNIV NT was released, John 1 was one of the first passages I noticed. It reflected the changes in language that have occurred since 30 or so years ago, when "man" and "men" were both used and understood to include both male and female. Thus John 1:9 reads "The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world" in the TNIV while the older NIV said "The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world". Of course, that sort of change is what has engendered the most opposition.A Word to the Reader includes this statement: "We trust .... that many will find it an improved representation of the Word of God, through which they hear his call to faith in our Lord Jesus Christ and to service in his kingdom." Like the 1984 NIV, the TNIV is being withdrawn from sale, as the translators and publishers hope that the new edition will satisfy both those who loved the 1984 NIV, and those who preferred the TNIV. The Committee for Bible Translation, who produced the revision, explain that there are three reasons why the revision was necessary: (1) changes in the way English is used (for example, the 2011 NIV uses words like ‘foreigner’ in place of the word... So the 2011 NIV is an attempt not only to revise the 1984 NIV, but also to revise the divisive and flawed TNIV. So we have three versions to compare: the 1984 NIV which many of us will be familiar with, the TNIV which caused such a furore in 2005, and the 2011 NIV published last year.
