Topper needs a life - and gets it!
Topper, the movie which sparked not only sequels, but also a television series, is a perennial laugh fest. Cary Grant is at his best, and Constance Benet is outstandingly beautiful and playful. If ever I get haunted, I hope its by these two. Basically, a milk-toast bank president named Cosmo Topper (Roland Young), who is secretly dying to break out of his "lamb on Monday, stew on Tuesday" lifestyle, is given just that chance when two of his bank's stockholders, who just happen to be THE COUPLE around town, wind up killed in a car crash. George and Marion Kirby show up from beyond,and believe the only way to get to heaven is to do a good deed (a la poor Topper)- something their actual lives seem to have lacked. Laugh after laugh ensue as they try to get Topper to break out of his regimental lifestyle, helped along by his social-climbing wife (aghast at anything out of the ordinary or "proper") and a dead-pan butler whose underlying humanity slips out of its straight-laced demeanor...

A must own movie!
This movie is REALLY good. I just saw it recently, and I was quite impressed. The story line is good, and the acting is just magnificent. Cary Grant and Constance Bennet are a GREAT couple as a couple of screwballs. It's a great story, a great cast, a great movie. A must see.

Cary Grant Made Topper A Trademark of HIs Suave Urbanity
Cary Grant nailed what was wanted in 1930s American film. The Depression was going on and people wanted urbanity, sauveness and carefree glamour. Cary Grant could deliver this like no one else. He was renowned for it through his entire career. This was the perfect movie to really focus the public on how perfect he was for that role.The sauve, carefree Kirby's are rich and party all the time. On a typical night of partying, clubbing and drinking, they are driving in their roadster and they run into a tree. The crash kills them instantly. They are ghosts and seek to redeem themselves in the afterlife by taking their stodgy old banker friend, Cosmo Topper, in hand and show him how to lighten up and have a good time. This is where the film really takes off because Cosmo Topper is not a willing "debutante for the ball". So the Kirbys and Toppers are squared off for what is a high good time.I loved this at any age I watched it, from when I was kid to today...

Great fun and entertainment for the whole family!
No language, nothing suggestive or offensive and, none of the modern day stupidity! Our five kids couldn't believe that there was so much intelligent humor in "the days of old"! We have watched the movies over and over and laugh every time... Cary Grant was the best and the movies were wonderful.... We highly recommend them..

Excellent classic TV for a great price!
This is a wonderful collection of nine classic episodes from a series that is unmatched by today's slop on TV. For $3.99, the price can't be beat. Echo Bridge has a HUGE catalog of Classic TV and classic western. This was another great find to add to my collection. The only (small) drawback is a light watermark logo on the screen, but it's hardly noticeeable.

I couldn't be more pleased with the image quality of both TOPPER and TOPPER RETURNS on this DVD from Hallmark & Artisan, and I'm a demanding viewer. Both prints are top-notch and the transfers are outstanding, offering extremely clean, clear presentations. I'm so pleased with this DVD that I was compelled to write this (my first note on Amazon) just to assure fellow fans of these great comedies that you should by all means order this disc with confidence.

The "Disgusted Hal Roach Fan" seems to be in his own tormented little world! I read his review prior to buying the Topper/Topper Returns video because I love this movie and had not seen it in a very long time. I thought, oh well, even if it is as bad as the "DHRF" said it was, at least I would get to see this movie again. My only explanation for the "DHRF" is that his sight isn't very good, he needs a new DVD player, or he just has an ax to grind against Artisan Video. The Topper video is crystal clear and the sound is great. If you like Cary Grant and want to see one of his earlier screwball comedies, this is a great DVD.

Topper, Volume 1&2
I thoroughly enjoy watching the old "Topper" shows again. They are so entertaining, and so mild (ghost-wise) that even a child could watch them and not have nightmares. These are really fun, and very nostalgic movies.
