Wonderful.
I was skeptical on what ukulele I should get as my first, and I consulted plenty of things: uke owners, reviews and various other things. After plenty of searching, I came to the conclusion of getting this one because it was recommended by uke owners and its reviews were good. It was definitely a good choice. The strings are great, but in the beginning it takes a bit to get the strings to stay in tune. It's such a wonderful tone, and the size is just about right. If you're getting your first uke, I recommend this one.

Amazing Soprano Uke
After spending two days using a brandless ukulele from a music store, this little baby came in the mail, much to my delight. With Aquila strings, low action, and beautiful craftsmanship, the quality of this product is apparent before even the first strum. If you're looking to start playing ukulele or are switching from a larger uke, this is the way to go. Love this uke!

Ukulele History

The Ukulele is actually the descendant of a four-stringed musical instrument known as the machête or, less accurately, the braguinha from the Portuguese island of Madeira. There are many theories about how the ukulele got its name. The two most-circulated stories include one about an English army officer, Edward Purvis, who became quite adept at playing the machête. Because he was small and sprightly (as opposed to the markedly larger frames of the Hawaiians), he was nicknamed "Ukulele," which in Hawaiian means "jumping flea" (also translated as "bouncing Flea" or "leaping flea"). A more literal theory likens the fingers of an accomplished player flying nimbly up and down the fretboard of the machête to the movement of "jumping fleas."

Great starter
Experienced ukulele players like to bag on the Lanikai, but it's been a great starter ukulele for me. The stock strings (aquila) have excellent play and once you get past the initial couple of days, hold it in tune very well.It has a classic ukulele sound, but does have a full textured sound (it doesn't sound like a tinny toy). This is a production model, so there won't be much of a sense of individuality. Every Lanikai LU-21 is the same, and since the solid wood top is made from a wood that lacks much grain, that sense is increased (you better put your name on it if you know you're going to be around other beginners). The one thing that I don't like much is the tuning pegs. There's a bit of play in them which can get wearisome when you're close to being tuned but are making some fine adjustments.

Great Standard Uke for Beginners
For the price, and the looks, this ukulele delivers 100%. It's beautiful, it sounds great- mine has never once had any tuning problems or fretboard problems, and it's an overall great, great ukulele for beginners. I've had mine for a year and a half and still love it.

Excellent starter instrument.
I am new to ukulele, and I researched them thoroughly. This one had consistently good reviews, and it did not disappoint me. It has a very sweet sound, and the strings it came with were not too "bright". It holds its tuning wonderfully, and is a joy to play. I would not hesitate to recommend this little gem to anyone looking to spend under $50. I am really enjoying it.

Great Ukulele for beginners
I bought 12 of these ukuleles for my high school program. They are excellent Ukuleles for beginners on a budget. They hold their tune well, and are pretty sturdy. These do not have friction tuners, which is a plus! My only recommendation is that you purchase Aquila strings for them. The black strings are ok, but they are not as resonant as when you place Aquilas on them :)

Great Ukulele
I bought this little wonder three months after a trip to Hawaii where I had purchased a lesser quality Leolani ukulele in a music shop on Waikiki. The shop also had some of these Lanikai Ukulele's selling between $80-$100. I was shocked to later find these on Amazon for a buck less than I paid for the Leolani. Upon receiving it I tuned it and could not believe the difference in quality! This little gem really has a nice sound! The Aquilla Nylgut strings sound amazing! and for $39! you simply can't go wrong with it.It comes with a small instruction book with a few tunes , a basic chord chart and tuning instructions. Although I recommend using an on-line tuning site or an electronic tuner for more accuracy. This is a very nice ukulele at an unbelievable price.

nice sound, good product
We bought this ukelele for our son who has taken an interest in all things somewhat off-beat. He has recently taught himself the basics of the guitar, and wanted something more portable and different from everyone else. This little ukelele has become his constant companion. It has a great sound and has held up surprisingly well, considering it goes with him almost everywhere, neatly tucked away in his backpack. It does need constant tuning, as ALL ukeleles do, but he has found a website with a ukelele tuner on it, thus eliminating the need for us to buy anything additional just yet. It appears to be well made- this thing has survived bike rides, train rides, and large groups of high school boys trying to make music on it. We were pleasantly surprised at how nice it sounds. He also is able to find chords for many songs, again through various websites. It is a bit different than playing a guitar, but we are very happy with this product and definitely recommend it!

Same as LU-21 Model but with less expensive materials and workmanship
I'm a former solid-body guitar builder and also a music teacher of younger children, teenagers and adults. I also play bass, guitar, ukelele and piano.I bought this LU-11 ukelele to experiment with the idea of turning the ukelele into a soprano guitar that is easier for younger children to learn than even a 1/2 size guitar. That way they get all the benefits of the small size, while still learning chords and notes that apply to the top four strings of a guitar. Eventually, they can move onto 6-string guitar, and everything they've learned with the soprano guitar applies. This instrument met all my expectations for playability and sound. It sounded good, was well intonated, and was pretty loud for such a small instrument. I didn't notice a big difference in the sounds between this model, and the more expensive LU-21 model. It was just as easy to play. The finish was pretty good -- a deeper, richer color than the LU-21 model I also own...

Good Cheap Uke
I ordered this uke because I decided I finally wanted one after playing my uncles ukulele for a while. This is a really good ukulele for really cheap. As far as the size goes, it's tiny because it's a Soprano ukulele, it has a brighter sound to it because of this and it's really neat. The other review on here states that the strings that come with the ukulele are plastic but they are actually clear nylon, which is what goes on a uke. The other review also states that the ukulele doesn't stay in tune and this is true at first, as with most ukes you have to keep tuning it for a while because it's new strings and they have to be broken in before they start to keep tune. I know this because as I stated, my uncle plays ukulele as well and he had the same problem at first and now it's fine.In general this is a high quality ukulele, the only thing I would note is that you should buy a tuner with it so you can keep in tune when you play (obviously) and it is a smaller uke because it is...

BEST UKE EVER!!!
This is probably the best investment I've made in a long time. I only paid like $21 for it and it is awesome! I've had it for several months and I haven't had to change the strings yet, and I expected them to be awful and only last a short time, but they're still going strong. My friend bought a $40 ukulele from a guitar store and it doesn't even compare. The 'economy' of this soprano Uke means that it's a bit bigger than a normal Soprano Ukulele and it's the perfect size. The green color always attracts the interest of others and it's cheerful sound never ceases to entertain. This is honestly a great investment!!!

It's complemented by polished brass frets and smooth and accurate, nickel-plated guitar style tuners (14:1 ratio) with plastic buttons for easier tuning. A color-matching green gigbag is included.

Soprano Ukeleles

There are four common types of ukes out there: soprano, concert, tenor, and baritone. The soprano--or standard--was the original, and is the smallest sized uke. It provides plenty of sweetness and that instantly recognizable ukulele sound.

good classroom instrument
I purchased these ukuleles in rainbow colors for my elementary general music classroom. I would describe them as a good classroom instrument because they are of a quality that young students can experience learning to play, while I am able to relax and let them strum away to their hearts content. The instruments, only a week old in my classroom, are still requiring quite a bit of tuning. I have been playing one I bought at a local music store (for $10 more than Amazon's price), and after 3 weeks of play it is finally holding its tune fairly well. I chose this product because of it's price (fairly easy to replace if disaster occurs), and the colors appeal to the kids, too. The quality has been good for most of the instruments, but a few have some scuffs or discolorations on the body. As with any instrument, some have better sound and tuning than others, but overall I am pleased with the quality of the sound as well.

The best beginner book.
I have looked at several beginner books for the ukulele and this is the most concise and comprehensive. It begins with the most simple of lessons on each string and quickly has you playing chords and scales while learning fun tunes. The companion CD is perfectly matched and provides extra information. You can't beat the price and the material. A+.

Get this one if you want to read music, especially notes
which is exactly what I was looking for. This book starts with the very beginning and covers the basics of music theory and ukulele playing. I think the book is pretty comprehensive and well-written, if very basic. I like the fact that it teaches you how to "tune the instrument to itself" (relative tuning)in the beginning. After preliminaries about the ukulele itself, the reader learns all the basic stuff that everyone has to learn who took band in school or had music lessons--musical notation, rhythm, and so on. This music theory basis is added upon as the student progresses. For example, you will learn what makes up a scale--both major and minor--and what music "keys" are.The strong point of this lesson book lies in it's teaching of the individual notes on the strings. To me, this is very important. You will learn not only how to play chords and strum and sing along, but you will be able to pick out melodies on the strings and read from regular sheet music. New chords...

Buy Ukulele

An excellent ukulele player is young Julia Nunes who records herself playing each of the parts of a song then, by editing, makes a final version of the song that features herself playing all the parts of a song on the ukulele. To buy a ukulele if you are a beginner differs from trying to find a ukulele to purchase if you have been playing for years. You have to buy a ukulele but have a problem sorting out these types of ukulele for sale. These ukuleles are normally of a much higher quality than the ukulele for newcomers and are usually made from solid wood. You can see good musicians going over their ukuleles in agonizing fine detail saying the things they like about it and also the things they do not like. The videos originate from uke players all around the world who are contributing to the popularity surge that’s happening in the ukulele world. As soon as folks have picked up their ukulele for sale they’re practicing and playing their hearts out to a national audience.

This rockin' kit + a few hours = ukulele bliss The My Ukulele Kit is a wonderful do-it-yourself project. Overview: Build and decorate your very own ukulele with the My Ukulele Kit. The ukulele's small size makes it a great instrument for kids and the relatively small number of parts ensures a frustration-free building experience. Question: What tools do I need to build it. Answer: In addition to wood glue, you'll need a Phillips screwdriver and a drill for creating pilot holes to attach the bridge to the body. The unfinished wood allows you to decorate your ukulele in any number of fun ways. This do-it-yourself set includes all of the components necessary to assemble a fully functional uke (that's street slang for ukulele). There are many channels devoted to teaching you how to play the ukulele. Did we also mention that everything sounds so darned chill and relaxed on a ukulele.

When I decided to build my first ukulele I went on YouTube and watched everything I could find on how to go about it. I stumbled upon a clip of a guy building a tenor ukulele. I did not let the fact that his ukulele sounded like a piece of firewood with weed eater string distract me from seeing that I had enough tools to build a ukulele. Now I still strive to give my ukulele and guitar customers what they want and keep them happy but the keeping them happy part is so much easier. A ukulele (or guitar) is obviously a lot smaller and less complex than a house and therefore a lot less stressful to construct. He and his partner/wife Corrie are very busy building and promoting Lichty guitars and ukuleles. When Jay’s love of music and the poor economy collided, he decided to fill in some of the down time building a ukulele, while waiting for things to turn around. I remember being about 13 years old and picking up a cheap plastic ukulele and picking out a melody with very little effort. He then, using a belt sander a standard hand drill and a skill saw, proceeded to build this ukulele that he strung up with weed eater string. Now that I’m making guitars and ukuleles those instruments have become my focus. Everything about a custom instrument is a joy and the customers are typically very excited to be treating themselves to a fine instrument. My first ukulele was built with the same hand tools…though I used the proper wood and strings.

We believe that this instrument will be able to produce the mellow sounds customers are looking for and it is just perfect in the hands not to mention a beauty to look at. This is an instrument of great value for what it can offer at a reasonable... As one reviewer shared that although this instrument came at an inexpensive price, the money paid could have been saved and go into a better quality ukulele if one is a little bit more serious about learning how to play. This folk instrument was reviewed by 40 people in which 70% of them gave it the highest score of 5 followed by 25% of the customers scoring it 4 and lastly 5% giving it a score of 3. This item has a great full tone that musicians can’t get enough of. Kala Mahogany Soprano Ukulele Review:. One reviewer shared that this was a great instrument to buy especially if on a tight budget and perfect for those who are starters. Customers appreciated the fact that this ukulele had a lot to offer even though it came at a very inexpensive price. This ukulele is a recommended buy. This is a great instrument for beginners and for those who are just looking for an instrument which will not hurt the pockets. Instruments are a great investment and this ukulele will bring joy to those who purchase it or receive it as a gift on a special occasion.
