A Berklee College of Music Resource
I am a classical singer and have been an Associate Professor at Berklee College of Music for 12 years and I have been extremely impressed with this book. Even though the book is called "The Contemporary Singer", it is a valuable resource for any singer. It covers specific technical areas in a clear, direct manner but also includes wonderful guidelines for topics like practicing, vocal health and performance skills. In the CD that accompanies the book, a variety of warm-up exercises are covered which are very thorough and progresses naturally. I would recommend this book to the beginning student as well as someone who just needs to reinforce their vocal technique.

Excellent For All Singers!
I bought this book because my voice teacher only teaches classical and I want to branch out into other styles as well. I am very impressed with this book. It covers so many areas that I never thought of. From breath control to proper mic usage to performance anxiety. A portion of the book is dedicated to explaining how the voice works and how it should be taken care of. There are also several breathing and warm-up exercises in the book that go from beginner to advanced. What I like best about the book is that it is easy to understand, the writer gives examples of things described and there is a cd to teach you the exercises talked about. I would recommend this book to anyone who considers themselves a professional singer or just a beginner.

A Must-read for all Singers
The Contemporary Singer is a must-read for all singers - beginning and advanced. It clearly and precisely details all aspects of vocal technique - physical mechanics of the vocal instrument and a complete explanation of all that is required to master the skills (practicing, vocal health, performing & auditioning). Ms. Peckham has also added in some very helpful information that applies to a singer of contemporary music - from belting to proper microphone usage. The accompanying cd of beginner and advanced warm-ups (for low and high voice) is extremely useful and helpful. As a professional singer with nearly 20 years experience, I found this book to be the perfect brushup. In addition, I learned some very helpful information that will undoubtedly improve my singing. How I wish this book had existed when I was first learning to sing! The detail and clarity surely would've made it an easier and certainly less frustrating experience.

Not just for vocalists ! ! !
The original version of the REAL BOOK for vocalists was a real disaster in terms of almost everything... You'd know that if someone handed you a sheet from it you were done for and you could see that train wreck a'comin right at you from miles ahead. - - This new "authorized" version in contrast is a real gem... so good I'd even reccomend non-vocalists to include it in their arsenal. Basically its the BEST of all three REAL BOOKS (and then some), cleaned up and well presented... with lyrics neatly typed in under the chords and melodies (useful for musicians anyway, since knowing lyrics help improve your sense of melody.) In some cases the changes are clearer and more concise than in any of the other REAL BOOKS !Though I'm not a liberty to type out all 300 goodies included I can name a few... LIKE YOUNG, SUNNY SIDE, JEANINE, IS YOU IS, JUMP JIVE AND WAIL, KILLER JOE, NOW'S THE TIME. IN THE STILL OF THE NIGHT, OLD DEVIL MOON, HONEYSUCKLE ROSE, SOFTLY AS IN A MORNING...

True To Music
I purchased this book from Hastings a few days ago and am enthralled. The music played sounds exactly like the piano accompaniment and has melody in top right hand notes. I noticed others who bought the easy piano version published in UK were very unhappy with their purchase, I would describe this version as intermediate. If you love Adele's music and want to play it for yourself on piano I highly recommend this book.

AWESOME BOOK
Awesome book for my teenage daughter. She's been playing a couple of years and this book is easy enough but still poses challenges for her. Great book!

Gripping and well-executed
Although recorded more than two decades ago, this is an excellent album for any lover of classical Japanese music to have. In small chamber ensembles, the members of Ensemble Nipponia prove themselves true masters of their craft, and weave an intricate tapestry of sound for the listener. Each piece is performed with exacting instrumental (and in one case vocal) technique combined with sensitive interpretation, making for a truly enjoyable musical experience. Drawn from the classical repertoire of both court and theater, the eight-piece program creates a good balance between the contemplative and the energetic, the gentle and the forceful. It also does a good job of representing a wide variety of traditional forms, while still maintaining a sense of continuity. Two tracks in particular stand out (in my view) as gems -- "Ogi no Mato (Folding Fan as a Target)," a lengthy narrative for biwa (lute) and voice, and "Godanginuta" for koto duet. The first...

Beautiful Instrumentals, Minimal Vocals
I really can't add to the other well written reviews other than to reassure those that don't much care for Japanese vocals (as one of the other reviewers said, usually an aquired taste to Occidental ears). There are only two tracks on the disc that contain vocals. Fortunately, in my case, this was the CD that got me over my distaste for Japanese traditional singing. Although I still prefer pure instrumental, I now perceive, albeit dimly, a certain beauty in the sparse, haunting singing. To put it more bluntly, it no longer makes me wince.Don't let your dislike of Japanese traditional vocals keep you from owning this CD: the music is phenomonal and it's a truly enriching experience to listen to.

A Brilliant Microcosm of Japanese Music
This really is one of the best CDs of Japanese music out there. The music is incredible, with virtuosi performances by the Ensemble Nipponia that are talented, inspired, authentic, and approachable. Every track is a wonder to hear. The music itself covers a broad range of different types and moods of Japanese music and features all four of the major musical instruments (clearly identified on the track list on the back), making this CD the perfect crash course in Japan's music for those just beginning to acquaint themselves with it--and of course it's a classic that bears repeated listenings over the years for those whose acquaintance is longer.

Great Inexpensive Pop Filter - Highly Recommended
Customer Video Review Length:: 0:52 MinsThe Nady MPF-6 Pop Filter is a great value, since it works very well and is a lot less expensive than some of the other manufacturer's alternatives. We have been producing professional instructional videos for several years (some are available on Amazon)for my wife's business, but we recently decided to offer our services to local businesses as well. That required us to put a little more effort into making our studio area more professional looking for clients, which meant replacing the double thickness of stocking stretched over a wire coat-hanger form we had been using as a Pop Filter. It works very well for attenuating the sharper "P", "T", and "S" sounds that cause spikes when doing voice-overs. This is a well made unit that connects firmly to the microphone stand with a screw clamp (see my picture in "Customer Images" of this unit connected to our...

Every person with a mic should use one...
I have been into audio recording for a while now, and always wanted to get a pop filter, but never did. Always looked at the and said, how does that make a different. Well I finally opted for the Nady MPF-6, as it seemed like the name was well known and there was positive reviews. So let me say that Im sorry I have not bought this sooner. It really works well, it still passes very good quality of your voice, and any words that have that blowing effect is not picked up. In general it will cut down about 70% of any words that generally cause a spike in the wave form to be normal. It will make for much easier post editing. The gooseneck design is sturdy, the clamp works excellent, used it on a Samson spider mount but clamp to most circular stands easily. I use it with a Samson CO1U microphone, very very please. One complaint is the screw that holds the gooseneck part to the clamp arm depending how you move the gooseneck will cause this to loosen, this is the only fault...

It also includes some observations on this excellent product.BTW, I feel that honest, effective reviews, accompanied by detailed videos, can take the place of first-hand experiences that are often lacking in online shopping. I've always appreciated the help I've received from other reviewers and try to return the favor as best as I can. I hope you found this review helpful and the video at least entertaining. If there was anything you thought was lacking or unclear leave a comment and I'll do what I can to fix it.
