I received a publisher's advance copy of W. Bruce Cameron's first novel, "A Dog's Purpose". In a word? Magnificent. OK, two words. Brilliant. Actually three. An Absolutely, Positively Wonderful Book
A Dog's Purpose is one of the most fantastic, wonderful books I've ever read. Many have tried to write from the animal's perspective, but Bruce Cameron has hit it head on. I've never experienced so many emotions while reading one book. I laughed, I cried, I cheered.Put in the context of what is going on in my life right now, I was just waiting for A Dog's Purpose. My son and his wife had to have their 15-year-old golden retriever put to sleep after a long and full life, a short time ago. Even though I was 1,300 miles away from them at the time, I went through the pain and the grief. Right now I'm visiting with him and his wife and we started talking about them getting another dog. Initial reluctance moved on to checking out rescue web sites to starting to make a list of potential new puppies. And then they found THE ONE. Absolutely Wonderful!!!
Dog lovers will absolutely love this book. The author masterfully captures what many of us would imagine to be the thought processes of our dogs, and makes the reader think about the role we play in our pets' lives, for good and for bad. While the book has its uplifting moments, make sure to have some tissues nearby as there are many, many tearful moments in the story of this dog's numerous lives. Lest anyone think that this is yet another book in the growing dog channeling genre, rest assured that this book is much more than that. This is a book that will make you think not only about the purpose of a dog's life, but the purpose of life in general.

Charming picture book
This is a delightful little picture book. It has no narraration and needs none. Through its pictures, it tells the story of a boy and a dog and a frog they try unsuccessfully to catch. The boy and the dog then go home to get cleaned up in the bath tub. The frog, who had enjoyed the little game of chase and is now a bit lonely, follows them and joins them in the tub. This is a great book to have your pre-schooler read to you

Wonderful little book
My mother "read" this series to me when I was a kid, and I remember always reaching for this one for years afterwards. The illustrations are outstanding -- my mother and I would laugh over a different page every time we read it, because of the boy's expression, the frog's grin, or the way the dog sat. Simple things, but not only was I learning to enjoy books, I learned to use my words to tell stories, notice details, and just have fun with my parents. This isn't a passive "hear a story read to you" experience.Perhaps needless to say, this book is one of the first gifts I give to nieces and friends at baby showers or birthdays. At showers, everyone has a good laugh over the pictures, and it's always a big hit. My own kids will have the complete set -- probably before they're even born!

Superb
When my little boy wanted to 'read' and still didn't know how, we went looking for wordless books. This was a great find. Even now that he's starting to read, this is one of his favorite books to 'read'. It is creative and the pictures are adorable. They are funny and they tell a story. But you can tell the story from several points of view and find new things to talk about every time. Very good.Enjoy.

What appears to be a simple movie about a boy and his dog on the surface is really a uncompromising examination of class, crime and religion in today's society. I don't want to spoil too much, but you will be surprised at how deeply Cool Dog plumbs the depths of your soul. great kid's movie!
any kid that likes dogs even a little will love this fun, adventurous movie. It probably could be picked apart by adults who have no sense of fun and wonder and hope but through a child's eyes this is terrific! The dog is a dog that kids yearn for: one that is smart, fun and protective and will do anything for his best friend."Cool Dog" is funny enough for the family to sit down to together. Only drawback I can see is the kids will want a dog just like, "Rainy"!

mwa.... so-so
Possible spoiler alert.I didn't particular like this movie. Too melodramatic for me. Where's the fun in that!? Combined with some, what seems to me unneeded and totally phony fantasy. Why did Rainey need to drive a car? But..... kids (10 and 6 yol) watched through it and had some laughs. Rating 3 stars because of that that. My 6 yol liked the scene where Rainey is shooting tennis balls at the bully.
