Dr Pincus is just delectable!
A Brit in New York dies on the operating table. After being resuscitated, discharged and leaving the hospital, he finds he can see and communicate not only with the living, but also with the dead. As soon as the dead discover his secret they just won't leave him alone...I have always found Ricky Gervais (The Office, Extras) incredibly Englishly funny. In Ghost Town he did not disappoint. He was hilarious from the first to the last minute, what facial expressions! But what got to me, was how sexy his character, Dr Pincus, became as he developed as a character throughout the film. By the end of the film I was positively infatuated with Dr Pincus! The contrasting setting (New York) added to the sense of Englishnes mentioned. Excellent. The film is not just a thigh-slapper though, particularly the middle of the film is quite touching. It makes a pleasant 'Christmas story' (although not set during Christmas, it smacks of being somewhat Dickensian in its theme), has that...

How was this movie passed over by the public? It should have made $$$.It is the BEST all-around date/couples/friends movie. Beautifully shot in Manhattan (makes me want to live there) This movie is funny with laugh out loud yuks. There's a love story super sweet and it's also got male bonding buddies.Tea Leoni is so pretty Ricky Gervais is funny as you expect but with a side of maturity and character development. Please see this movie-it is wonderful.

Gervais does a rom-com!! AND IT WORKS!!!!
I've thought of Ricky Gervais as many things, but not "romantic-comedy star." But for those willing to take a visit to GHOST TOWN, you'll find him to be a pleasantly agreeable star after-all.Not that Gervais' Dr. Pincus, a dentist, is pleasant. He's a quiet man, eager to do all he can to stay away from his fellow man, whether by sneaking past an office party for the exit, or not holding an elevator door open for a fellow apartment building dweller. He has disdain for ALL of mankind, and chose the life of a dentist because he can pretty much keep his patients from talking by opening their mouths and shoving things in them. Gervais, as we know from his work on THE OFFICE and EXTRAS, is perfect at this sort of misanthropic character. Unengaged with those around him, full of easy (and hilarious) contempt. The smart remarks he tosses off under his breath are quite funny. Frankly, he reminded me of something akin to Hugh Grant's older, more unpleasant brother.Early...

Great story-telling
I loved this story from beginning to end, and what an ending.Loved Layla's character, she certainly had to put up with a lot from her old man!Great settings and an enchanting tale.Looking forward to reading more from this author.

Product Description

Novella (20k words) Psychological horror / suspense / ghost story - When Layla's professor husband has an opportunity to spend the winter at an old motel in a seaside amusement park resort, she reluctantly agrees to run the pub attached to it while he works on his book. The arcades, food stands, souvenir shops and tattoo parlors are boarded over for the winter but the bungalows tucked in the dunes are occupied by artists and transients looking for cheap rentals. She faces a long, cold, lonely winter but a bunch of old guys she calls The Geezers soon begin regaling her with stories about the "old days" and about an ill-fated romance between the beautiful wife of a Boston mob boss and The Great Hercules, a sideshow strongman. She is also increasingly fascinated by an elusive roustabout who flirts with her and shows her the secret spaces in an old beachfront ballroom. As winter gets darker and deeper Layla's husband is both struggling with his writing and becoming suspicious of her behavior. What Layla doesn't know is that nothing is what it seems and her options are growing fewer every day. Ghosts of a Beach Town in Winter
I really enjoyed this short story. I loved the mystery throughout this book and was surprised by the ending, I really didn't see it coming.

Great psychological novelette!
This is the first of Kathleen Valentine that I have read and what a great read! The book was given to me by the author to read and review and even though it is very short I enjoyed it. It immediately reminded me of The Shining but with a twist. I would love to see it fleshed out into a full novel and hear more about Layla's character and the backstory of Muriel, Fitz, Herc, and the Geezers. I always love a book set in New England. Not many books are set in Ohio, which is where I currently live, but I did live in the Boston area for a few years and its fun reading about places that I am familiar with. The north shores are a perfect setting for a story like this. I can't wait to dive into her other stories.

Amazing!!!
I just finished this book last night (mine arrived a day early for whatever reason) and I have to say it was better then I could have ever imagined! First of all I was thrilled to see so much of Myrnin (he is by far my favorite character) and the ending was a real shocker.... I don't want to write any spoilers, but if you are a fan of the series this is a must read <3**anyone who hasn't read any of the books yet should start with Glass Housescant wait till the next book!! how long do we have to wait?? =]

I don't know how.. but Caine did it again :)
Let me just begin by saying that I am a huge fan of this series and If you haven't started reading it, do so right now. I read the complete thing (books 1-9) in less than a week. It was that addicting. Anyways, like the other books, Ghost Town was beautifully written and included all of the elements that I love about this series. There is tons of mystery, excitement, romance and humor.I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical going into book 9, I mean usually by this point, a series starts to go off the deep end. Honestly, how far can you take the same set of characters? And how exactly do you follow up a villian like Bishop? But somehow Caine managed to keep things going strong, by pulling out all the stops. Tell me what is more frightening than having everyone you know and love forget you?Claire is as feisty and determined as ever. She, once again, gets herself in an undesirable predicament. As a punishment, she is forced to fix the machine that wipes the memories of those...

smart & snarky dialog, sweet romance, & helpless fury over the unjust treatment of humans. GHOST TOWN delivers all that & more
Review courtesy of All Things Urban FantasyEvery time I think Rachel Caine has written herself into a corner and can't possibly think of new ways to torture Claire and her friends, she proves me wrong. GHOST TOWN doesn't try to top the previous books by bringing in bigger and badder outside threats (really, what could be worse than Bishop?), instead she does something much scarier: she makes Claire watch helplessly as humans and vampires alike forget...everything.At this point in the series I have certain expectations from a Morganville book: smart and snarky dialog, sweet romance, and helpless fury over the unjust treatment of humans. GHOST TOWN delivers all that and more. In a way, it's like a tabula rasa, a blank slate. We get to see Myrnin at the height of his insanity, Amelie as the formidable Founder she once was, and best/worst of all we see Shane forget and fall for Claire all over again. Most series fizzle out long before reaching nine...

And I ended up creating just another ghost town on the web. In a ghost town on the web. I didn’t put my face on it and I didn’t associate myself (or any individual human) with it. People like to know who they are hearing from. The social media revolution was built on the idea that people want to connect with people. But there’s a difference between a digital presence and a digital footprint – the footprint actually leaves an impact, and takes time to develop. I didn’t have a unique perspective and I didn’t act human. It’s easy to buy a domain, install WordPress and a fancy theme, set up an email program and create social media profiles. It happened on a recent lark of a side project where I didn’t take my own advice and ended up making some stupid mistakes. Trying to invent a brand out of the ether – especially one that people will connect with – is a tough exercise. I made decisions too quickly, and didn’t think about their long-term impact. People are linking to you and sharing your stuff, responding to your emails, spending time and leaving comments, and in some cases opening their wallets.

[5] "Bullfrog" became so popular that Giant Bullfrog, Bullfrog Merger, Bullfrog Apex, Bullfrog Annex, Bullfrog Gold Dollar, Bullfrog Mogul, and most of the district’s other 200 or so mining companies included "Bullfrog" in their names. "[4] The Bullfrog Mining District, the Bullfrog Hills, the town of Bullfrog, and other geographical entities in the region took their name from the Bullfrog Mine. Industrialist Charles M. Schwab bought the Montgomery Shoshone Mine in 1906 and invested heavily in infrastructure including piped water, electric lines, and railroad transportation that served the town as well as the mine. "Beatty" is named after "Old Man" Montillus (Montillion) Murray Beatty, a Civil War veteran and miner who bought a ranch along the Amargosa River just north of what became the town of Beatty. The Goldwell Open Air Museum lies on private property just south of the ghost town, which is on public property overseen by the Bureau of Land Management. Rhyolite is a ghost town in Nye County, in the U. S. state of Nevada. The town is named for rhyolite, an igneous rock composed of light-colored silicates, usually buff to pink and occasionally light gray. Most of its buildings crumbled, were scavenged for building materials, or were moved to nearby Beatty or other towns, although the railway depot and a house made chiefly of empty bottles were repaired and preserved. The town began in early 1905 as one of several mining camps that sprang up after a prospecting discovery in the surrounding hills. Published estimates of the town’s peak population vary widely, but scholarly sources generally place it in a range between 3,500 and 5,000 in 1907–08.

When he told me about a ghost town 15 miles from the fishing lodge where I had been staying I eagerly accepted his invitation to ride along with him to see it. If the Chamber of Commerce brochures are to be believed, Rush is the only ghost town...   Slowly the remaining residents drifted away and Rush was officially recognized as a ghost town in 1972 the same year it was acquired during the creation of the Buffalo River National Park System. While miners lived in tents along the banks of the rivers, a rock smelter was constructed along Rush Creek to extract the metallic substance that so many were convinced was silver.   Rush’s residents could mail letters, buy stamps and visit on the store’s large front porch where they could get caught up on the latest news – and gossip.    While the building that housed the mine offices and mill are long gone, the foundation pillars for the Morning Star Mine are still visible.   Scattered along both sides of the graveled surface were buildings that stood as empty and abandoned testaments to the thriving population that once called this spot along Buffalo River home.   Many weddings took place at the general store because the store owner was not just a shopkeeper and postmaster, but also a justice of the peace. As we walked along the road, David pointed out places among the woods, briars and tangles that he used to explore as a young boy and the tour started with the General Store.   Fueled with dreams fed by Indian legends of lost silver mines, men came to the area in a “rush”.   During the mining boom brought on by World War I, zinc prices went through the roof. Up the hill and across the road from the general store sat Morning Star Mine.
