Brilliant on Every Level!
THE KING'S SPEECH is one of those rare films that rely on the brilliance of the actors to bring a story/screenplay alive. But the success of this extraordinary film does not stop there. This re-telling of history as written by David Seidler and as directed with enormous sensitivity by Tom Hooper, as captured on film by cinematographer Danny Cohen glows as a background for some of the finest acting before the public today. The film opens in 1925 as King George V (Michael Gambon) is beginning to fail, leaving the heir apparent to the throne at the time of his death to be Edward VIII (Guy Pearce), a man more concerned with love with the twice divorced Wallis Simpson (Eve Best) than he is with the Royal Lineage. Once the now senile George V dies, Edward VIII takes the throne but soon abdicates to marry Wallis. This passes the throne to the tender but severely stammering Prince Albert (Colin Firth), a man terrified of facing his beloved countrymen because of his speech...

An enthralling journey which is heart-warming, humorous and genuinely sincere.**** 1/2
There always seems to come a time in every British actors career where they must play the role of a historical British monarch. Riding on the success of his career defining performance in "A Single Man" and sampling the glory of Best Actor nominations across the award circuits, Colin Firth comes storming back with another film, determined, this time, to take the all the prizes with him too. But is "The King's Speech" worth its pre-Oscar hype?Set across the years between the First and Second World War, "The King's Speech" concentrates on the rise of King George VI (Firth) and his personal woes, including his infamous stammer and disdain for public speaking. Obviously being royalty, having an ability to engage the public in moving and inspirational speeches tends to be a necessity of the job. In attempting to overcome this disability, he's entrusted in the care of the eccentric and flamboyant speech therapist, Lionel Logue (Geoffrey Rush).Over the course of the film, the two...

Speak The Speech I Pray Thee--A Dignified And Humanizing Tale Of Friendship And Royalty
Earlier this year when I started hearing raves about "The King's Speech" on the film festival circuit, I knew it was a film for me. I have eagerly awaited its arrival for many months and, as expected, it is a dignified and well scripted effort. Intelligent, adult entertainment of this sort only hits the theaters around awards time and there is no denying that "The King's Speech" is positioning itself perfectly for the year's biggest competition. In an unusual bit of bravado, David Seidler's screenplay is fashioned as a feel good underdog story. Yes, that's right--King George VI is a plucky survivor who must overcome adversity to win the respect of his family and his nation. It's an unusual tactic, really, but I think that's why so many people are responding to "The King's Speech" in a more personal way than past stories of regal history. The film humanizes this world leader in a very identifiable way.The plotting of "The King's Speech" is pretty straightforward and...

Brilliant
Nothing compared to the King's Speech but definitely a must see documentary for those who enjoyed watching the King's Speech. It's very informational and inspiring. Gives your an inside exclusive on the King and his struggles with stuttering. I really enjoyed watching the historic footages of King George. I was quite surprised to see Colin Firth do a commentary. This is something everyone should see before or after they watch the King's Speech.

Inspiring!
I loved this film because it was such a great accompaniment to the film. It is a truly touching tale that brings you into the life of King George VI and really allows you to empathize with what he was going through.

A Solid Successor to the Kindle Keyboard
For my review, I'm going to focus it on the differences between the previous (which I'll refer to as the K3), and the Kindle Touch (KT)USE - As far as the reading experience, I really like the touch compared to the physical buttons on the previous generation. At first I was worried that I would constantly be turning the page from accidentally touching the screen, but this didn't become much of an issue. The screen is broken up into mapped sections, so if you touch the far left side that covers about 1" of the left of the screen, it goes to the previous page. If you touch anywhere on the other 80% of the screen beside that, it goes forward. Touch the top 1" margin, and it will bring up the menu. There is also a physical button on the...

First Kindle: Chose Touch over the Keyboard
I've had my Touch for almost a day now, and it's pretty awesome. I'm not a big reviewer, but I figured several people may be in a similar position as I was yesterday, so here we go...I'm definitely an avid reader. Actually, as I type this, I have roughly 1000 books sitting on a wall of shelves behind me. E-readers have always intrigued me, but I've never felt like they were worth $199 or more; however, when the Kindle Fire was announced, I thought they had released the Kindle for me.I watched video reviews, "hands-on" videos, read numerous reviews, etc. I was pretty sure that I wanted a Fire, but as I thought about it, I wasn't convinced that the Fire really provided me with access to anything that I couldn't do on my phone (HTC Inspire 4g). Other than a bigger screen, the Fire was actually pretty limited (for my purposes). I mean, I would only be able to use the browser and watch videos in areas with WiFi (i.e. at home, at work, or at retail location with...

A worthy upgrade over other Kindles!
Customer Video Review Length:: 9:09 MinsPlease watch my video review here. Thanks for watching and I hope it helps.General observations:- Controlling/manipulating things on the screen is so much easier with the touch screen-it's a lot more intuitive!- Athough I don't show it in the video, you can swipe instead of tap to turn pages. You may also use your left hand to page forward by tapping slightly more in from the left edge. It works quite well.- Looking up a word is as easy as pressing on that word. No more fumbling with a 5-way controller. You can additionally highlight blocks of text quite easily by just swiping over it.- Kindle Touch also has the new X-Ray feature which is really neat. It can be interesting to see a summary listing of facts from a given book about a person mentioned for instance. The Kindle Keyboard does not include this feature.

The Pursuit of God - made easier to know and practice.
Didn't realize that when they called this book a classic they really meant it. Many ideas and also clear direction to a more full walk with God (which, I think, is what we all really want). For the believer, God's "distance" is never the issue. It is only that we are to tune in to Him and the reassurance of His already immediate presence is known and felt by us. The idea of God's Throne in one's life (and there is room only for One on the throne at any time) is simplified. Yes, we want to walk with God. But remember it is He who reaches out to us before we can know Him in the first place. No wonder this book is so highly regarded.

LIFE CHANGING!
For years I listened to my Pastor & other theologians quote things from this book. Everything I ever heard from this man I wrote down because it was profound & usually very convicting to my heart & it drove me to the Word of God for further study...that is a good thing. So I finally decided to read this book for myself. It was the best decision I ever made for myself. I recommend this book to every Christian..it will transform your life if you listen to the Still Small Voice deep inside your heart. Blessings to you.

Moving and Life Changing
This is a truly moving exposition about what it means to live a life in pursuit of God. Tozer's work is a classic and it is one that I would recommend not only to Christians but also to anyone remotely interested in Christianity.

OVERVIEW

Aiden Wilson Tozer (April 21, 1897 - May 12, 1963) was an American Christian pastor, preacher, author, magazine editor, Bible conference speaker, and spiritual mentor. Hailing from a tiny farming community in western La Jose, Pennsylvania, his conversion was as a teenager in Akron, Ohio. While on his way home from work at a tire company, he overheard a street preacher say: "If you don't know how to be saved... just call on God." Upon returning home, he climbed into the attic and heeded the preacher’s advice.

In 1919, five years after his conversion, and without formal theological training, Tozer accepted an offer to pastor his first church. This began 44 years of ministry, associated with the Christian and Missionary Alliance (C&MA), a Protestant evangelical denomination; 33 of those years were served as a pastor in a number of churches. His first pastorate was in a small storefront church in Nutter Fort, West Virginia. Tozer also served as pastor for 30 years at Southside Alliance Church, in Chicago (1928 to 1959), and the final years of his life were spent as pastor of Avenue Road Church, in Toronto, Canada.

Among the more than 40 books that he authored, at least two are regarded as Christian classics: The Pursuit of God and The Knowledge of the Holy. His books impress on the reader the possibility and necessity for a deeper relationship with God.
Living a simple and non-materialistic lifestyle, he and his wife, Ada Cecelia Pfautz, never owned a car, preferring bus and train travel.

Prayer was of vital personal importance for Tozer. "His preaching as well as his writings were but extensions of his prayer life," comments his biographer, James L. Snyder, in the book, In Pursuit of God: The Life Of A.W. Tozer. "He had the ability to make his listeners face themselves in the light of what God was saying to them," writes Snyder.

EXCERPT

Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.—I Cor. 10:31

One of the greatest hindrances to internal peace which the Christian encounters is the common habit of dividing our lives into two areas, the sacred and the secular. As these areas are conceived to exist apart from each other and to be morally and spiritually incompatible, and as we are compelled by the necessities of living to be always crossing back and forth from the one to the other, our inner lives tend to break up so that we live a divided instead of a unified life.

Our trouble springs from the fact that we who follow Christ inhabit at once two worlds, the spiritual and the natural. As children of Adam we live our lives on earth subject to the limitations of the flesh and the weaknesses and ills to which human nature is heir. Merely to live among men requires of us years of hard toil and much care and attention to the things of this world. In sharp contrast to this is our life in the Spirit. There we enjoy another and higher kind of life; we are children of God; we possess heavenly status and enjoy intimate fellowship with Christ.

This tends to divide our total life into two departments. We come unconsciously to recognize two sets of actions. The first are performed with a feeling of satisfaction and a firm assurance that they are pleasing to God. These are the sacred acts and they are usually thought to be prayer, Bible reading, hymn singing, church attendance and such other acts as spring directly from faith. Top to learn more

Product Description

James Grant, a young politician with everything going for him, including the most recent polls, gives a rousing stump speech in a local park. His campaign for mayor against the entrenched incumbent looks unstoppable. That is, until the police discover him standing over his wife’s dead body with the murder weapon in his hands.

It certainly looks as if James is guilty. But psychologist and acoustics expert Pamela Barnes has other ideas–and they include helping this young man prove his innocence and succeed in his bid for mayor.

Can Pamela’s knowledge of sound help her find the real killer and exonerate James? Or will this young politician’s most recent stump speech be his last?

Great Story For A Winter Afternoon
I picked up this book after hearing about it on one of the forums, and I'm so glad I did. It's a charming book populated with normal, everyday people in a pleasant little town, who have to solve a rather baffling crime before election day. This book IS NOT a high-profile, international-spy kind of thriller, and that's why I like it. It does have it's share of twists and turns, obviously, and a pretty surprising ending. Perfect for those who are looking for a quieter sort of mystery for a lazy afternoon.

Light Reading
This is a very cozy and predictable mystery novel. Not one I'd choose if I were looking for something complex with plenty of twists and turns. At times I felt the book veered off on tangents that drug on a little too long (descriptions of the family dog, a coworker giving birth, etc). Overall the author is no master of suspense, but has crafted an enjoyable story.

While I was waiting in line to check in I noticed a blonde lovely girl standing with a friend who was checking people in. She kept looking in my direction, but I wasn't sure if she was really looking at me. Then in a few minutes she pointed at me... I was taking pictures with different friends when Drew came up and said we should take a picture together. We started dating exclusively about 4 months after that on July 7th, 2007: 7/7/7 Cha-ching. I thought the best way to do this was to buy a Barfly Bus Golden ticket to get me out there and meet some new people. On this very St. Patrick's Day I was to attend a bar hopping tour on one of Portland's well loved Barfly Mystery Bar Bus Tours. Another friend took our picture when we had the first kiss that brings back some memories of the evening. And the future date of our wedding planned for July 7th, 2012, the 5 year mark of that exclusive day. ” He grabbed me and we started kissing right there, right then. Our friend, Bryn still had the camera in his hand and took a picture of our first kiss. Drew and I had many close encounters of being at the same place on the same day for years before we officially met. I had just come out of a three year "I am never getting into another relationship again" hiatus while I concentrated on finishing my bachelor degrees, working part-time and being a full time single mom. When I saw them I told Drew, “There’s too much tension between us to take these pictures. I'm not even sure how I knew his name was Drew.

TED denies this and points out that not all speeches can be released as videos, and claims that in this case, Hanauer's talk did not make the cut because there were more worth speeches ahead of his in line. TED has been heavily criticized for deciding not to post this video of the speech as part of its well-known series of TED Talks, presumably because  they deemed it too political, since Hanauer advocates higher taxes on the rich.
